Prince Harry Allegedly In Need Of More 'Sensational' Material To Include In 'Spare' Paperback Edition

A royal insider has shared reasons why Prince Harry has yet to release the paperback version of his debut memoir "Spare" despite nearly two years since he released the hardcover.

According to the journalist, the Duke of Sussex has delayed the release because he has no new "sensational" material to add.

Since releasing Spare, Prince Harry's relationship with the royal family has worsened, and it is believed that any new memoir from him would close the door on any form of reconciliation.

In January 2023, the royal household was rocked by the hardcover release of Prince Harry's memoir "Spare." The book detailed several shocking and personal aspects of his interaction with the royal family.

Initially, it was anticipated that the Invictus Games founder would follow up the debut of his book with a paperback version. However, eighteen months later, this has yet to materialize.

According to royal expert Ephraim Hardcastle, the delay in releasing a paperback isn't because Harry doesn't want to. He claimed that the prince had struggled to find any new "sensational" or newsworthy information that could be added that would allow his publishers to greenlight the release.

"It seems Harry has no new spare excitement to impart. His family has kept him at arm's length, aware that anything they say could be taken down and used in evidence against them," the journalist wrote in a column for theDaily Mail.

He mockingly added, "The only exclusives Harry could offer relate to his view of the Coronation from behind Aunt Anne's plumed hat and how he nipped into Buck House en route to Heathrow to use the loo."

Hardcastle's claim comes as a shock, as previous reports had suggested that Harry has ample material to publish a second memoir if he wishes.

Most of the content was expected to come from part of the first draft of "Spare," as the duke had earlier revealed that half of the first draft did not make it to the final copy.

At the time, Harry claimed that he removed those contents because he feared his family would never forgive him if he published them.

While the prince has yet to confirm whether another book is in the works, it appears that his family is scared of it happening. They allegedly warned Harry that publishing another book would end any hope of future reconciliation.

However, if Harry forges ahead with a second memoir, the royal family would most likely respond with "a continued dignified silence."

On the podcast "The Rest Is Entertainment," best-selling author Richard Osman provided insights into the publishing industry, discussing the financial success of Harry's critically acclaimed memoir.

"I've done some back-of-the-envelope calculations because I like to. I know what you get paid per book. [He] got a $20 million advance," the author said about Harry, whose book has been branded as "one of the most successful" and "fastest-selling nonfiction books of all time."

Beyond the advance, the writer of "The Thursday Murder Club" claimed that the prince had earned an extra $6 or $7 million based on the sales of the book's hardback alone.

He added that Harry has also earned money for "audiobooks and rights to other things," while the rest of the hardcover sales go to the publishing house to recoup the advance they paid the prince.

Still, according to the author, the Invictus founder will likely enjoy another financial windfall from the paperback's sales whenever they debut on shelves.

Harry has only made rare trips back to the U.K. since releasing the memoir, with his latest visit coming in the wake of his father, King Charles, facing a severe health issue.

While the duke surely met with the King during that trip, it was unclear whether he had any time to spend with his brother, Prince William.

Recently, another royal commentator, Dee Dee Dunleavy, confirmed that such a meeting with the Prince of Wales never happened, adding that William isn't keen on speaking with Harry.

She told the Daily Mail, "To this day, after the release of 'Spare' and the Netflix serial, as well as with everything else Harry has said, done, and not done, it's Prince William who adamantly refuses to even speak to his brother."

In the meantime, the next major project expected from Harry is a show on Polo on Netflix.

A statement about the docu-series read, "The series will explore the world of the sport, which is known primarily for its aesthetic and social scene. It will pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level. Prince Harry has been known as a keen polo player and is often photographed playing internationally."

Harry will serve as executive producer for the project, and his company, Archewell Productions, will partner with Boardwalk Pictures to bring it to life. The latter was previously in charge of Netflix's "Chef's Table," "Pepsi, Where's My Jet?" and "Sex, Love, & Goop."

Also, Harry, a polo enthusiast, may make a cameo in the series.
