On Saturday, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot off approximately six to eight rounds at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania. One bullet grazed the former President's right ear, leaving his face bloodied.

Law enforcement officials said Crooks was perched on top of a roof about 400 feet from the stage where the 78-year-old was speaking, outside the security perimeter set up by the Secret Service.

While the FBI revealed that Thomas Matthew Crooks was shot and killed by the Secret Service shortly after he opened fire at the Donald Trump rally, The Butler County Coroner has revealed more details and has announced the official cause of death.

Crooks wounded Trump, killed one person, and severely injured two others at the rally on Saturday before snipers took him down with a fatal headshot just one minute after he started shooting.

The 20-year-old gunman allegedly attempted to join his high school rifle team but was rejected for being a poor shot. However, it’s worth noting that he was still involved with a local shooting club.

The gun used in the shooting was legally purchased by Crooks' father.

While the Secret Service confirmed that Crooks was shot and killed by an agent after he opened fire into the crowd in Butler, PA, this weekend, The Butler County Coroner told TMZ that the 20-year-old died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The coroner has ruled his death a homicide, which shouldn't come as a surprise.

“We are working hard to determine the sequence of events related to the subject and his movements in the hours, days, and weeks prior to the shooting,” Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office said before confirming, “we’re still very early in this investigation.”

Neighbors Of The Crooks Family Break Silence

Around 10 a.m. on Monday, several SUVs surrounded the home where Crooks had lived. Along with searching the home, the FBI also interviewed two neighbors, including Steve Riviere, who later shared his insights with KDKA-TV.

"I don't feel any particular culpability to it because I live in the same neighborhood. I think everybody is shocked and surprised, maybe not as surprised as we should be," Riviere said. "But shocked that this kind of thing happened."

"And I think we all hope that this will be the end of it and we'll get to a position where people can have regular polite discourse about their issues rather than pulling out a gun and climbing on a roof," he added.

Details Surrounding The Shooter Begin To Surface

While records indicate that Thomas Matthew Crooks was registered as a Republican in Pennsylvania, federal campaign finance documents reveal that he donated $15 to a progressive political action committee on January 20, 2021, the day of President Joe Biden's inauguration.

Those who knew him described Crooks as a quiet young man who frequently walked to work at a nearby nursing home. A classmate mentioned that he was bullied and often ate alone during high school.

Another individual who knew the 20-year-old told CNN that Crooks had “no facial expression” when he walked through the school hallways. “He wasn’t, like, with the clique, so he always had, I guess, a target on his back," they added.
