Former President Donald Trump has finally revealed his running mate for the upcoming presidential election.
Trump's VP revelation comes after months of speculation, during which several Republican firebrand politicians' names were thrown into the ring for his consideration.
The announcement of Donald Trump follows his surviving an assassination attempt during his rally in Pennsylvania.
Donald Trump Chooses J.D. Vance As His Running Mate For The 2024 Election
Amid a delicate period in America and as the 2024 presidential election fast approaches, Trump has finally unveiled Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate.
Trump made the revelation on the first day of the Republican National Convention to a loud round of applause, indicating that his supporters approve of his VP pick.
Since the start of his presidential re-election bid, Trump has been tight-lipped about his preferred candidate for the vice president position despite being questioned about it on several occasions.
However, just hours before the Republican National Convention began, Fox's Bret Baier confirmed that the former president would reveal the individual's name during the first day of the four-day event.
"He did confirm that he's going to make a VP choice today," the news anchor said on the network about Trump, adding that the ex-president said, "There's other surprises to come."
The Former President Previously Held Meetings With His Preferred Candidates Before Making His Decision
Trump's selection of his VP followed a rigorous process that involved him holding meetings with the top contenders.
Ohio Senator JD Vance, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio were reported to be among those the former president spoke with prior to making his choice.
It is believed that Trump didn't inform the contenders about who would be picked when he interviewed them.
All of the VP candidates reportedly submitted important information to be used for their profile makeup if they were picked for the role. This included bios, photographs, and other relevant content.
Donald Trump's VP Attended His Debate With Joe Biden
Before the RNC event, at which he unveiled his running mate, Trump hinted to Fox News that his preferred vice presidential candidate would appear at his Atlanta debate, where he faced off against President Joe Biden.
He also said, at the time, that his party was expecting "a lot of people" to grace the Republican National Convention, which is being held at the Fiserv Forum arena, home base for the American professional basketball team, Milwaukee Bucks.
According to Politico, over 50,000 people, including journalists, delegates, and MAGA supporters, are expected to attend the event.
During the convention, Trump will likely speak on a number of his policies, including his economic agenda, stemming immigration at the country's border, reducing crime, and supporting law enforcement. He will also share other ideas on how he plans to strengthen the nation and improve foreign policy.
Donald Trump's Assassination Attempt Did Not Change His Planned Schedule
Days before the Republican National Convention, Trump was involved in an assassination attempt that led to him sustaining minor injuries.
Following the incident, the former president revealed on his Truth Social platform that he had thought about delaying his arrival at the event but decided not to let such an incident disrupt his schedule.
"I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention by two days," the billionaire mogul wrote on his social media platform.
He added, "But have just decided that I cannot allow a 'shooter,' or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else. Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee as scheduled."
More secret service personnel are expected to be with Trump during the convention to forestall any other possible attacks on his life.
Donald Trump Said A Bullet Pierced The 'Upper Part' Of His 'Right Ear'
Shortly after almost being killed, Trump took to Truth Social to condemn the violent incident.
"I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania," the ex-president wrote at the time. "Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured."
The 78-year-old continued, "It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin."
Concluding his post, Trump said, "Much bleeding took place. So I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"
