The incident, which occurred on November 22, 2022, led to a lawsuit by Patrick Rykwalder, who claimed Grayson crashed into the back of his 2020 Dodge Ram on Interstate 65 in Tennessee.

Savannah, however, argues that she had no legal responsibilities for the 18-year-old at the time of the accident.

She highlighted that she only became Grayson's joint legal guardian in January 2023, coinciding with the incarceration of their parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley.

Both Todd and Savannah clarified that they did not own the 2020 Ford 5150 pickup involved in the crash.

They also stated that the vehicle was neither "maintained for family use and was not being operated to further a family purpose at the time of the subject accident."

Driver Accused Grayson Chrisley Of Negligence In 2022 Car Crash Lawsuit

Although Grayson was also injured in the incident, it did not stop Rykwalder from alleging that the youngster's inattention to the road caused the accident. According to the driver:

"Grayson failed to act appropriately under the circumstances, which included at a minimum maintaining a safe operating distance from other motor vehicles, maintaining a safe operating speed, and avoiding being distracted by electronic devices within his motor vehicle."

As Todd and Julie sought to seal portions of the lawsuit, Rykwalder criticized their actions. Rykwalder argued:

"For parties who suddenly want privacy — after seeking public attention at every opportunity — they sure have an odd way of going about it. Alternatively, maybe the Defendants want to control the public narrative surrounding the case by getting their version of events publicly and then seeking this Court to seal any counter narrative that may otherwise come out."

His statement also suggested that if the Chrisley family were genuine, they would not have used the situation to their advantage.

When the young star was involved in the car accident, the incident quickly became a media sensation.

However, a month later, in December, The Blast reported that Grayson joined his older sister Savannah on her "Unlocked Podcast" for a candid discussion about the accident.

The reality TV star clarified that while the crash was severe, he had fully recovered. In his words, Grayson admitted, "I'm fine, the truck's not fine, but I am fine. But it was bad, it was really bad."

Despite the seriousness of the crash, he explained that the media had blown the situation out of proportion. "They made it sound like I died. It was like, 'Grayson Chrisley badly injured in a car wreck,' and I was like, 'Bro, I'm fine,'" the TV personality noted.

On Savannah's podcast, Grayson mentioned that he shared a photo of himself working out at the gym after the accident. This prompted a flood of concerned messages from fans.

"Do you know how many DMs I got that were like, 'Surprised you're not still in the hospital?' I'm like, 'I was there for, like, four hours,'" Grayson recalled.

His sister provided a more serious perspective in response to his seeming nonchalance about the incident. She described arriving at the scene and seeing the extensive damage to her brother's truck. Savannah revealed that her "heart sank" when she saw the wreckage.

Following the car accident involving her brother and the convictions of her parents, Savannah became the legal guardian of her younger siblings, Grayson and Chloe.

The Blast shared that the podcaster shared her journey from financial recklessness to a more responsible and reflective mindset. Her revelations underscored the profound changes she experienced amid her family's ongoing challenges.

The "Chrisley Knows Best" star highlighted her previous lack of financial foresight in an interview, stating, "I will make no bones about it, I spent my money like it was never ever gonna go away. I never thought it was gonna go away."

She also explained how the shift to a single-income household drastically altered her outlook and behavior.

In her words, "I feel like God never gives you more than you can bear. I feel like what is happening right now is exactly what I needed to not be this spoiled, entitled whatever, because what's happening now is testing who I am as a person."
