Earlier this year, "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was also charged with involuntary manslaughter. She was sentenced to the state maximum of 18 months behind bars by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who presided over the "30 Rock" actor's trial as well.

On Friday, the judge decided to dismiss the case against Baldwin with prejudice after the prosecution seemingly colluded with law enforcement and did not disclose supplementary evidence to the defense.

Alec Baldwin's Daughter Ireland Baldwin Shows Support Following 'Rust' Trial Dismissal

On Friday, less than an hour after the “Rust” trial concluded, Ireland took to Instagram to share a photo of her as a young child, sitting on her father’s lap. On Friday evening, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the “Rust” case without evidence. She had dismissed the jury earlier in the day as the prosecution and the defense argued over new information that just came to light on Thursday night when a crime scene tech revealed that evidence had been categorized in such a way that it was not included with the rest of the “Rust” evidence.

“The late discovery of this evidence during the trial has impeded the effective use of evidence in such a way that it has impacted the fundamental fairness of the proceedings,” Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer said as she explained that the prosecution had committed a Brady violation. A Brady violation occurs when a prosecutor fails to provide the defense with evidence that could be helpful to a defendant’s case.

On October 21, 2021, a gun that Baldwin was holding went off, striking and killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Both Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023. In April 2023, the charges against Baldwin were dropped pending further investigation into the gun used in the shooting, which may have malfunctioned.

In January 2023, charges were refiled against Baldwin. In March 2023, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty after prosecutors successfully argued that she was the one who put live ammunition in the weapon; however, it is still unknown how exactly the ammunition ended up on set. She is currently facing 18 months behind bars, but it is possible that, given the dismissal of Baldwin's case, she might be granted an appeal.

Baldwin also faced 18 months behind bars; however, now that the judge has chosen to dismiss the case with prejudice, he can no longer face criminal charges related to Halyna Hutchins' death. He is, however, still facing several civil lawsuits related to the "Rust" incident.
