Sasha Banks is at the top of her game.

The current Smackdown Women's Champion is one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE.

With her Boss gimmick, charisma, and athleticism; Sasha is the center of attention every time she steps out into the ring.

These days Sasha is enjoying her success as WWE's top female talent. However, that may not have been the case a few years ago.

2019 Hiatus

Since joining WWE in 2012, it was evident Sasha had a lot of potential.

In her first few years with the company, she became NXT Women's Champion, a four-time Women's Champion, and main-evented numerous PPVS.

Despite her accomplishments, many fans felt WWE was underutilizing her, and sacrificing her in order to push Charlotte Flair.

By 2019, Sasha and her friend Bayley won the Women's Tag Team Championship in February at the Elimination Chamber PPV.

Heading into WrestleMania 35, the two put the championship on the line in a fatal four-way tag match.

Many expected Sasha and Bayley to retain, however at the end of the match, The IIconics had won the titles.

Following their loss, Sasha would then take a break from WWE.

Reason For Hiatus

Throughout Sasha's hiatus, rumors swirled about the reason for her break.

Reports suggested that the star was frustrated with her treatment by WWE. One rumor said that she and Bayley threw a temper tantrum following their WrestleMania 35 loss, however, that story was later debunked.

Sasha would later reveal that the reason for her hiatus is because she was struggling with depression. Banks explained that she was unhappy and she felt like she wasn't herself.

Needing to focus on her mental state, Sasha took a leave of absence from the company.

The longer Sasha's hiatus continued, the more speculation began on when or if she'd return.

If Sasha had it her way, she would've left the company back in 2019.

The 29-year-old revealed that she asked WWE Chairman Vince McMahon to release her from her contract.

McMahon denied Sasha her request, and gave her 30 days to think over her decision.

Sasha admitted she took a lot longer than 30 days, and after a four-month hiatus, she made her return with a new look and a new heel persona.

She's received a big push from WWE, and she's become a two-time Women's Tag Champion with Bayley again, and also briefly held the RAW Women's Championship.

Currently, she's the Smackdown Women's Champion, a title she won from Bayley in October 2020.

With WrestleMania 37 a few weeks away, Sasha is rumored to be facing off against Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair.

Aside from her wrestling accomplishments, Sasha is gaining mainstream success thanks to her role in "The Mandalorian."

With a wrestling and acting career becoming red-hot, there's no stopping "The Boss" from succeeding in whatever she does.
