Lots of A-list actors got their start on soap operas before making it big.

Celebs such as Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Meg Ryan were on the daytime shows before launching their movie careers.

Now, another soap opera star is receiving a big Hollywood opportunity.

"The Young and the Restless" actress Sasha Calle has been cast in the role of Supergirl in the upcoming production of "The Flash."

The casting news broke on Friday and there's already buzz around Calle as fans want to know more about the girl who won the iconic role.

Boston, Massachusetts native Calle's love of entertainment began when she was a young girl. As a child, she loved to sing, dance, and perform plays.

After graduating high-school, she moved to Los Angeles, where she enrolled in the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.  Calle would graduate with a BFA in Performing Arts, and set about getting auditions.

In 2018, she got her big break when she was cast as Lola Rosales on "The Young and the Restless."

Although Y&R fans have mixed reviews on the Lola character, they applaud Calle's performances.

In 2020, she received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series.

Role Of A Lifetime

Supergirl is an iconic role that any actress would be lucky to play.

Over 400 auditions took place, but director Andy Muschietti said it was tough to make a decision, but he felt Calle was the one to play Supergirl.

During a Zoom conference, Muschietti broke the news to Calle by asking if she could fly, then proceeds to hold up the Supergirl costume.

The video posted to Muschietti and Calle's Instagram pages shows the entire discussion.

The 25-year-old actress is overcome with emotion at realizing she landed the role of a lifetime.

Calle will step into her new superhero role for the upcoming "The Flash" movie, which is set for a November 2022 release.

She'll make history by being the first Latina actress to portray Supergirl.

Although, some comic book fans have issues with Calle being cast in the role, others are excited for the actress's huge opportunity.

After the news broke, Calle's Instagram and Twitter feed was flooded by congratulations from fans and co-workers.

With an outpouring of support behind her, Calle is ready to crush it as Supergirl.

With Calle set to portray Supergirl, many are wondering if this means she's leaving "The Young and the Restless."

Prior to landing the superhero role, rumors circulated that Calle may be on her way out.

The character of Lola hasn't been seen much on the show lately. Her marriage to Kyle Abbott ended, and she did have a brief relationship with Theo Vanderway before the producers write off his character.

With no major storyline in the works, many feel that the character's being wasted.

With the latest news about Calle being cast as Supergirl, it looks like her time on the CBS soap may be coming to an end.
