The first 2024 Presidential debate was certainly memorable. From President Joe Biden trailing off several times to former President Donald Trump spreading falsehoods, Americans were left concerned about the nation's future.
The event, hosted by CNN, lasted 90 minutes and touched upon various topics, including Donald Trump's hush money trial regarding Stormy Daniels, Joe Biden's age, the economy, and abortion, among others.
As many Americans labeled the debate "disastrous," they also couldn't help but cope by finding humor in the political event, mocking Biden for looking like he was lost, and noticing Donald Trump calling his opponent "Brandon."
Why Did Donald Trump Call Joe Biden 'Brandon?'
It all started on October 2, 2021, after Brandon Brown won the NASCAR Xfinity Series 2021 Sparks 300 race. During his interview with NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast, fans began chanting, "F-ck Joe Biden." However, reporter Stavast thought they were chanting, "Let's go, Brandon!"
Footage of the interview went viral, and Biden was soon dubbed Brandon, with many memes and other political icons using the term to refer to the 81-year-old president.
Watch Donald Trump's 'Best Line Of The Night'
Dubbed the "best line of the night," Donald Trump subtly slipped in "Brandon" during the 2024 Presidential debate, leaving viewers floored.
"I said close the border," Trump said. "With the safest border in history. In that final couple of months of my presidency, we had, according to Border Patrol, who is great, and by the way, who endorsed me for president, but I won't say that, but they endorsed me for president."
"Brandon, just speak to him," he then said.
Americans React To 'Brandon' Jab
After hearing the mockery from Donald Trump, the clip went viral on social media, with thousands of Americans reacting.
"That is the best line of the night!" one user expressed. "'Brandon, just speak to them!' I’m cracking up," another wrote after watching the clip.
"My husband and I had to watch it separately because of our bedtime routine with kids. And I heard him holler, 'Did he just call him Brandon?' I heard it 1 minute later and hollered back, 'YEP!'" a third wrote, adding two laughing emojis.
Others said they "burst out laughing," calling the moment "priceless."
Key Moments From The 2024 Presidential Debate
Amidst the many events of Thursday's 2024 presidential debate, one key takeaway was the January 6 discussion.
"We are the most stupid people in the world," Donald Trump said while responding to a question on the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021. "On Jan. 6 we had a great border, we were energy independence, we were respected all over the world. Then [Biden] comes in and we are one of the most stupid people across the world."
Biden replied by stating that no previous president in the history of the United States had spoken like that.
The former President of the United States also claimed that America is "closer to World War III and [Biden] is driving us there."
“If we had a real president, the president that … was respected by Putin, he would have never invaded Ukraine,” Trump said of Biden, who clapped back with, “Go ahead, let Putin go in and control Ukraine, and then move on to Poland and other places. See what happens then. He has no idea what the hell he’s talking about."
Joe Biden Says Donald Trump Has 'The Morals Of An Alley Cat'
As expected, Joe Biden also mentioned that Donald Trump has been convicted of 34 counts related to falsifying business records concerning a 2016 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
“The crimes you are still charged with… How many billions of dollars do you owe in civil penalties for molesting a woman in public, for doing a whole range of things, for having sex with a porn star on the night your wife was pregnant," Biden said. "You have the morals of an alley cat.”
Trump simply responded, “I didn’t have sex with a porn star.”
Earlier this year, after the guilty verdict was read, Trump claimed, "This was done by the Biden administration in order to wound or hurt an opponent, a political opponent and I think it’s just a disgrace, and we’ll keep fighting and fighting till the end and we’ll win because our country has gone to hell."
His sentencing related to the trial has been scheduled for July 11, 2024.
