Drew Barrymore proved that just because you're in a horror film doesn't mean you'll immediately recognize a real-life horror movie plot.
The actress and talk show host recently shared a dating horror story during an episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show" and fans could sadly relate, sharing their stories on social media.
Drew Barrymore Thought She Was Going To Be Murdered During A First Date
She's just like the rest of us trying to maneuver through today's dating world. It appears that everyone has horror stories, and Barrymore isn't immune to that. "The Wedding Singer" star recently shared one of her first date stories that had her thinking she might get murdered.
She explained that she went on a date with someone she "thought she knew" and also knew quite a few people who knew him, so she felt safe. So when he asked her to go to his apartment for this first date, she didn't think much of it.
"I go to his apartment and he's in the middle of a remodel. We both love home design, that's my passion, I find out it's his. I'm walking through his house and we go down to the basement," she said before being stopped by her cohost Ross Mathews.
Mathews adamantly asked, "Why are you going to the basement? You were in 'Scream,' don't you know how horror movies go? This is step one."
She continued with her story saying she's a "big fan of laundry" so they were checking out his laundry room. While there, she noticed a giant roll of "clear plastic whatever it is," making her feel she immediately needed to go back upstairs.
"I walked upstairs and I turned to him and I said, 'I know we don't really know each other but I was really afraid that you were going to murder me,'" she continued. "It totally bonded us, and we knew each other for a couple years and would see each other here and there and made more friends that like dating, but we always joked about it, the night I thought he was gonna murder me."
Drew Barrymore Isn't Alone When It Comes To Dating Horror Stories!

Barrymore and her talk show both shared a clip of her dating horror story on Instagram and many fans dropped into the comments to share their own dating tales.
"When I was twenty, I had the displeasure of meeting a French Police Officer at a Wine Bar in Paris. He laced a drink at the bar. I got up to leave and he stuck a handgun into my side," one viewer shockingly shared. "Needless to say, I am still here after 12 harrowing hours with this man. I was lucky. Thrity one plus victims were not."
Another viewer shared, "I did that one time for a first date. Never again. Some guy made me dinner which was nice but he ended up pinching me etc over several hours time. And laughed about it. I asked him to politely stop and he said oh your a big baby. I grabbed my purse and left. I thought he was rude."
But not all stories are bad! One fan shared her basement story and her happy ending.
"A couple weeks into dating a new man he brought me to his house and was showing me around. He asked if I wanted to see the basement. I said no. He asked why and I replied 'I really like you and I’m not ready to know if you have a clay pit of women like in 'Silence of the Lambs,'" she wrote. She also added that they are now married.
This Wasn't The First Time Drew Barrymore Shared Her Dating Stories!
Fans of Barrymore know that this wasn't the only dating story she's shared. She's talked openly about her dating life and what it's been like - the good, the bad, and everything in between.
Earlier this year, she shared a dating app story with her talk show viewers.
"Here's a story. Ready for this one? So this guy on my dating app said he was the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams," she revealed during an episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show."
She continued her story sharing that she told this man it's "so frustrating being a girl from Los Angeles who loves football" but didn't have any teams, and then moved to New York where there are now two teams.
That's when this man dropped a blatant lie saying he was the quarterback for the Rams.
"He was not the quarterback for the LA Rams," she said. "He's a musician that thought he was being cute."
She told Mathews that she felt "lied to, robbed."
"And then the guy was like, 'Hey, Drewski,'" she continued. "And I was like, 'I hate you. You, pithy, deceiving, playful, you've made me feel stupid. I don't know who you are. I feel so dumb. Why did we have to get off on this foot? I hate you.'"
Maybe Not A Dating Horror Story, But Close...
Recently, Barrymore admitted that she once made a list on paper of all her past sex partners and inadvertently lost it at someone's house.
"I made a list. It was back in the day. I did it with paper and pen," she said on a recent episode of her talk show. "I'm the most disorganized person, I lose everything. I left it at someone's house."
She then revealed she lost her list at Danny DeVito's house around the time she was producing and co-starring in DeVito's 2003 film "Duplex."
The list consisted of the first and last names of her ex-partners on the back of some notes about the film. She eventually told DeVito about the list and when asked if he ever found it, he said, "As a matter of fact, I've been meaning to talk to you about this. Some of the names on that...I made a copy of it, and it's going to be in my autobiography."
After joking about it, he admitted that he never did find it and her "secret is safe."

Just last week, Barrymore shared another dating story on her show with Hoda Kotb. When Kotb said it's important to notice how a man talks about his kids and his ex, Barrymore broke out another relatable dating story.
"I should write a book on my dates," Barrymore said. "I went on a date with a guy and the first 10 minutes of our conversation were how his daughter discovered he was having an affair and it blew up his marriage with his ex-wife and his ex-wife is this terrible person and just went off about her, and I was like, I wanted to die."
Viewers appreciated the candid conversation about something that sadly many can relate to.
"Definitely not that kind of story, that's when you know this guy's not worth it, always listen for baggage it always ends up hurting you and narcissists. That's a topic really worth talking about. This was a good episode thank you Drew and Hoda," one person wrote in the comments of a clip shared on Instagram.
"Oh my goodness, Drew!!!! My daughter told me I should write a book too! Dating is not for wimps," another person shared.
