Jenna Ortega Makes Big Announcement Regarding 'Wednesday' Season 2

Jenna Ortega has just made a huge announcement regarding the production of 'Wednesday' season two.

When it first debuted on Netflix, ' Wednesday' broke records. With 252 million views, it quickly became the most popular English-language series and spent 20 weeks in the global Top 10.

Shortly after, the production team announced they were working on a second season, and now we know more about what to expect.

For starters, many actors are returning for the second season, including series regulars Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo.

Directors Al Gough and Miles Millar, who are also the creators and showrunners, spoke about the upcoming season. “We are thrilled that the entire Addams Family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season, along with a dream cast of icons and new faces," they said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter.

On Tuesday, May 7, the actress made a huge announcement regarding the second season of the Netflix show. "We’ve begun season two," Ortega shared, along with a selfie of her in her iconic Wednesday Addams braids.

Fans could not contain their excitement as the post received 1.7 million likes and over 17,000 comments. "Can’t wait, super excited to see your work incredible as always," one of Ortega's followers said.

"WE WAITED FOR THIS DAY FOR SO LONG," another commented.

"Omggggg I am so excited for season 2!!!! I’m sure it will be great," a third expressed.

Fans can look forward to A-List celebrities guest-starring in the second season. Christopher Lloyd ('Back to the Future'), Joanna Lumley ('Fool Me Once'), Thandiwe Newton ('Westworld'), Frances O’Connor ('The Missing'), Haley Joel Osment ('The Kominsky Method'), Heather Matarazzo ('The Princess Diaries') and Joonas Suotamo are all joining the cast, according to THR.

In addition to the new characters, the production team has added as series regulars Steve Buscemi ('The Big Lebowski'), Billie Piper ('Scoop'), Evie Templeton ('Return to Silent Hill'), Owen Painter ('Tiny Beautiful Things') and Noah Taylor ('Law & Order: Organized Crime').

When speaking to Vogue last year, Jenna Ortega explained how she's "always respected goth culture."

"I've always had a darker sense of humor, but I never felt like I was able to express that. Now I feel like I can embrace those qualities in myself," she told the outlet.

The actress explained how the show and her role as Wednesday Addams have influenced her looks.

"Up until then I was really, really attached to my long hair," Ortega said. "Changing it encouraged me to be more adventurous; to experiment and be more creative in that way."

The 'You' actress also spoke with Vanity Fair where she admits Wednesday Addams sometimes comes out in her everyday life. “I know, I get it all the time,” she told the outlet. “I’ve always been pretty dry, but it’s so funny because now anytime I do an interview, I could be so happy, and it’s always just that one portion of a quick joke that I make, or a dry ‘whatever,’ and then it’s all I’m known for.”

After 'Wednesday' debuted on Netflix and took the world by storm, Jenna Ortega spoke on how the entire thing was a "whirlwind."

"It felt like a whirlwind maybe more at the end of the year when the show initially came out," she told PEOPLE. "I feel like I tried to avoid the chaos as much as possible and keep myself surrounded by people that I love and know, and I think that they kind of helped ease my nerves."

Ortega added, "I've felt my life change, but I think I'm more focused on my work than anything, which kind of has made it a bit more of a seamless transition."

She also explained how she landed the role. "Netflix sought me out specifically," she told Vanity Fair. "I didn’t know that my name was even being thrown out or anything like that. I just got an email one day saying, 'Hey, Tim Burton really wants to meet with you tomorrow for this job.' It really was just Tim and I speaking and me not really understanding the magnitude of the project or what it could be."

"I was just excited to be meeting Tim," she concluded.
