Riley Strain's Family Claims His Friends' Actions Are Fishy: 'Why Didn't They Call The Police?'

Riley Strain's family continues to question the events that unfolded the night their loved one went missing, including why his friends didn't call the police.
Per The Blast's previous coverage, Riley Strain went missing on March 8 after he was reportedly kicked out of Luke Bryan's establishment in downtown Nashville. After 14 days of searching, the University of Missouri student's body was found in Nashville's Cumberland River. Several personal belongings and clothing items were not retrieved, including his phone, pants, belt, wallet, and boots.
His frat brothers say they began questioning where Riley was after they returned to their hotel room later that evening to find he was nowhere around. So, why didn't they call the police?
Riley Strain's Family Is Frustrated With His Friends
When speaking to NewsNation, Riley's mom, Michelle Whiteid, questioned her son's friends' actions. "Why wouldn't they have called the police when they got back at 3:15 in the morning and didn't see him then?"
Riley's stepfather, Chris Whiteid, revealed that the fraternity brothers did not involve the police until nearly 14 hours after they last saw their friend.
"We called them on the way down," he explained. "It was probably close to 12 o'clock, and they were just going to the Sheriff's office to report him missing."
Riley Strain's Friends 'Suddenly Disappear' After Family's Arrival
They also said the frat brothers "suddenly disappeared" after Rile's family arrived in Nashville on March 9. "So when we got there, several of the boys were out front with a police officer," Michelle added. "The boys stayed out for a while, and then they [suddenly] disappeared."
Despite their friend being MIA, they continued having fun in Nashville. "They ended up back out a little while later in their dress clothes to go out to their formal that night," Riley's mom said.
"We come back [from searching the hospitals], and they're coming back, some of them from the party, and they're waving at us as we're sitting in the truck," he added. "How does that make you feel?"
Riley's father, Ryan Gilbert, added, "We weren't very happy with them, to say the least. It's appalling."
Riley Strain's Friends Have Yet To Talk To His Parents
Ever since Riley's body was discovered, Michelle says she still hasn't spoken to his frat brothers. "I haven't sat down and talked to any of them to say, ‘Tell me your whole entire story,'" she said. "Would I like that? Yes. It would be nice."
Chris added, "I don't understand why they wouldn't have [contacted] us, wanting to provide information from that night. Maybe I'm crazy, but why should we have to reach out to them and beg them for information on a missing brother?"
According to the family, the fraternity brothers initially extended their support, but ultimately did not fulfill their promises. "We didn't know what we needed at that point in time," he expressed. "But you would've thought that they would've at least been out searching, trying to do something. It wasn't."
Riley Strain's Drink Allegedly Did 'Not Taste Good'
This latest line of questioning comes from the same interview where Riley's mom says she received a sketchy text message from her son.
The University of Missouri student allegedly told his mom that the rum and coke that he ordered at Luke Bryan's 32 Bridge bar did "not taste good." She says she told Riley he probably shouldn't have been drinking it then, but it is unclear if he consumed it or asked for a new one.
As The Blast previously reported, the bar claimed Riley was only served one drink and two glasses of water. "Maybe there was something in it that shouldn't have been," she told NewsNation.
Riley Strain's Family Demands Answers
The family has been outspoken about their concerns regarding the case, claiming they have "had a lot of questions," specifically with the items that were missing from Riley's body upon discovery. "[His] pants, belt, wallet, [and] boots ... none of those items have been found. We’re pretty certain that he would have been wearing a belt at the time," Ryan Gilbert, Riley’s father, said, per KY3.
Riley Strain's family has ordered a second autopsy.
