William Mwungeri of Phoenix, Arizona, loves to cook. Not only does he love it, but he’s really good at it, too. He even grabbed the attention of famous chef Gordon Ramsay recently.
The young chef shares many of his cooking videos on social media and has gained tens of thousands of new followers on both Instagram and TikTok in recent months.
William Mwungeri's Cooking Talent Shines On Social Media
The 14-year-old eighth-grade master chef realized at a young age that cooking was his thing.
“I first realized my talent for cooking when I was just 10 years old. It all began with practicing making omelets, and to my surprise, they turned out exceptionally well,” he told The Blast exclusively.
“My siblings and parents were so impressed that they began requesting me to make them omelets regularly. From that day forward, I had a passion for cooking.”
Mwungeri’s cooking talent is self-taught with some help from YouTube videos. Some of his favorite things to make include chicken alfredo, pizza, and steak kabobs.
William Mwungeri's Beef Wellington Grabbed Chef Gordon Ramsay's Attention
When the young chef shared a video on social media demonstrating his beef Wellington recipe, it quickly caught the attention of Ramsay, who is known for his tough critiquing. But Ramsay stitched Mwunderi’s video with his commentary, proving he was blown away by what he witnessed.
“You are handling this recipe with such confidence,” Ramsay said. “Dude, this is looking very good. Seriously, I wasn’t cooking like this at 12.”
At the end of his stitched video, Ramsay invited Mwungeri to visit his restaurant as his guest.
“When I made the Beef Wellington video, I never anticipated it would catch Gordon Ramsay’s attention,” he told The Blast. “And yes, I will be meeting him.”
Mwungeri said that he loved watching Ramsay cook on TV growing up, and it actually made him want to start cooking too.
“Gordon Ramsay shows and TikTok cooking videos inspired me to start my own channel,” he said. “I hope one day I can be as good as him and have a cooking show like he does.”
William Mwungeri's Family Realized Last Year He Has An Amazing Talent
Mwungeri's brother, Rene Moise Kwibuka, told The Blast that the family realized he had an amazing cooking talent when he was trying out different dishes and they always turned out great.
While many might think that his love of cooking has him in the kitchen more often than not, Kwibuka said he's not doing most of the cooking in the house, but "maybe one day."
A family favorite that Mwungeri makes is kebabs. He demonstrated how he makes them in a TikTok video that grabbed lots of attention.
"HOW IS BRO NOT FAMOUS (keep up the great work)," one person wrote in the comments. Another said, "Young man, you have true talent."
William Mwungeri Hopes To Do A Few Collabs In The Near Future!
While the teen chef loves making cooking demo videos and sharing them on social media, he's also interested in doing some collaborations. One person he would love to collaborate with is popular TikTok creator, Khaby Lame.
He recently shared a video to grab Lame's attention, and he did just that! In the video, he demonstrated how to make the perfect chicken finger.
Lame commented on the video - shared on Instagram - with a simple checkmark.
When asked what type of video Mwungeri hopes to do with Lame, he told The Blast that he would like to make a video "where me and him react to a complicated cooking hack and then do it the right way."
He also said he would love to one day collaborate with Nick DiGiovanni.
A Viral Collab With Uncle Roger!
Mwungeri also caught the attention of wildly popular YouTuber, Nigel Ng, who goes by "Uncle Roger." The two collaborated on an egg fried rice video.
"So Uncle Roger, what do you think," Mwungeri asked, to which Uncle Roger replied, "Uncle Roger thinking not bad. Good job, nephew William. Uncle Roger would saute garlic and use leftover rice and maybe bigger pan."
The video then shows Mwungeri chopping an onion, garlic, and scallions, and making the rice, as Uncle Roger suggested. He also added a surprise jumpscare in the middle of the video to keep viewers on their toes.
