Just three months after "The Golden Bachelor" reality stars Gerry Turnerand Theresa Nist tied the knot in a televised wedding ceremony, the couple has decided to call it quits.
Turner and Nist became the first 'Golden Bachelor'couple, inspiring many to never give up on love. While they have announced their decision to part ways, they admit they are still in love and are each other's best friends.
'The Golden Bachelor' Couple Makes Bombshell Announcement
This morning on 'Good Morning America,' Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist sat down for an interview where they dropped a bombshell announcement.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and -- and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to -- dissolve our marriage,” Turner told 'GMA' anchor Juju Chang.
“Get a divorce?” Chang clarified. “Yes,” Turner replied.
Nist added, “We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched ‘The Golden Bachelor,’ and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody.”
Why Did The 'Golden Bachelor' Couple Call It Quits?
Many fans wonder why they decided to divorce just three months after tying the knot? It boils down to living arrangements, work commitments, and family.
Nist is employed and happy with her job and its current location. The two were considering a residency in South Carolina, and while they looked at many houses, they could never agree on the move.
“We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision," Nist explained.
Turner added, “The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it's been how dedicated both of us are to our families. So we look at these conversation and we both think it's best for the happiness of each of us to live apart."
Gerry Turner And Theresa Nist Still Have Love For Each Other
Turner and Nist, who continued to hold hands throughout the interview with 'GMA,' said they are still in love, and wish each other nothing but the best.
“I still love this person,” Turner said. “There’s no doubt in my mind, I still am in love with her. I root for her every day.”
Nist added, “Yeah, I still love him.”
While it didn't work out for these two, they want everyone out there to "stay hopeful."
"And we tell everybody else to continue to look for love," Nist said.
Gerry Turner And Theresa Nist Became The First-Ever 'The Golden Bachelor' Couple
After a long journey, Gerry Turner got down on one knee and proposed to the New Jersey native during the finale of 'The Golden Bachelor,' which aired on ABC last November.
Turner picked out a 3.15-carat, princess-cut diamond engagement ring from Neil Lane.
“I know how sometimes it feels like the whole world thinks love is only for the young, and quite honestly, at the age of 70, I was beginning to feel that myself,” Nist told Turner before he proposed. "I’m so madly in love with you, Gerry, and I feel that for us, life isn’t over, the best is yet to come.”
Gerry Turner And Theresa Nist Say 'I Do' During Televised Wedding
In the first-ever 'The Golden Bachelor' wedding, Turner and Nist exchanged vows and said "I do" at the La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, California.
The ceremony, which was televised on January 4, 2024, was filled with many 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette' alums, and was officiated by Susan Noles, who was a contestant on Turner's season of 'The Golden Bachelor.'
“I promise to choose you, every day, as the one I love, and never take your heart for granted," Turner told Nist in his vows. "I promise to shout the 'I love yous' by day, and whisper them softly at night. I promise to keep you safe. And I promise to make you feel comforted in difficult times and abundantly joyful in great times.”
"I love you," Nist told Turner in her vows. "I love your heart and your soul. I love your smiles and your laughter. We have so much fun together, we laugh until we cry. ... I promise to be calm in the storm, to comfort you when you're sad, to laugh with you when you're happy, and to stick with you throughout it all, but most of all, to have fun. For the rest of the days that we have left on this earth, which could be another hour," she joked.
