Robert Downey Jr.has addressed the burning question: Would he ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

As you know, RDJ portrayed the famous Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, in the MCU, but that came to an end after Iron Man used the Infinity Stones to snap and defeat Thanos in 'Avengers: Endgame', ultimately sacrificing himself.

This moment marked the end of Tony Stark's journey as Iron Man. But now that RDJ has won an Oscar, could he come back to the Marvel franchise?

'Iron Man' actor Robert Downey Jr. made history as he finally took home his very first Oscar win at the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 10.

"I'd like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order," he began to say in his acceptance speech before adding, "I'd like to thank my—veterinarian, I meant wife Susan Downey, over there. She found me a snarling rescue pet, and it loved me back to life. And that's why I'm here. Thank you."

He continued, "Here's my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me," before thanking 'Oppenheimer' director Christopher Nolan, and his costars. "I stand here before you a better man because of it. What we do is meaningful, and the stuff we decide to make is important."

Robert Downey Jr. was nominated alongside Ryan Gosling, Mark Ruffalo, Robert De Niro, and Sterling K. Brown in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Robert Downey Jr. Says 'Oppenheimer' Has Been 'A Demarcation Line'

Ahead of his Oscar win, RDJ told the New York Times that his role in 'Oppenheimer' allowed him to regain his "connection with a more purist approach to making movies."

"At this point, you're not doing it for the money. Were you ever doing it for the money once your baseline needs were met? Probably not. Did you think it was about money and prestige? Probably from the time I was a teenager until that illusion dissolved in front of me, leaving me in a depressive state," he said.

Adding, 'But then there's the why: I don't know why I can relate to Lewis Strauss so much, but I felt like I was meant to play this role, and I knew I'd be in capable hands. 'Oppenheimer' has been a bit of a demarcation line for me."

While 'Oppenheimer' has been his latest hit, of course, everyone will always know him as Iron Man.

Would Robert Downey Jr. Return To Marvel?

The question that everyone has on their minds -- Would RDJ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that he's an Academy Award winner?

“Happily," he told Esquire for their latest story. "It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige spoke with Vanity Fair last December, claiming that RDJ's Iron Man wouldn't return because it could ruin his perfect exit in 'Avengers: Endgame'.

“We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,” Feige told the outlet last year. “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

Guess we will just have to wait and see...

'Iron Man' actress Gwyneth Paltrow recalled what it was like working with RDJ on the Marvel films, claiming Downey Jr. would just throw lines out there that weren't even in the script, and so she "eventually stopped bothering to learn her lines at all."

“There would be this process of [director] Jon Favreau and Robert and I going into Jon’s trailer in the morning and Robert being like, ‘I’m not f---ing saying these lines’ and throwing them out,” Paltrow recalled, per Esquire, when filming.

“And then live improv-ing either in the trailer or on the set. I think in order for something to feel alive for Robert, it has to feel fresh, and he makes it fresh by making it feel like it was just invented. So many of those famous lines were written 10 minutes before we said them.”
