Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott Are Reportedly 'Cordial' For The Kids Amid Divorce

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott may be calling it quits on their marriage, but they are not slamming the door on being civil.

Despite reports of a chilly split, the former couple prioritizes a united front for their five children.

Even with the unavoidable scrutiny from friends and peers, the couple has remained committed to providing their children with a stable and nurturing environment.

According to sources close to the couple, the decision to divorce was not unexpected, with both parties taking steps to ensure a smooth transition into this new phase of their lives.

Rather than letting emotions escalate, the exes reportedly maintain a cordial relationship, particularly concerning coparenting. 

An insider told ET, "It's not a volatile situation on either end, and things are actually pretty cordial between them. Their coparenting situation is fine and continuing to get better."

At the same time, despite the sadness surrounding the split, Spelling appeared to be embracing the opportunity for a fresh start. 

Though recent signs suggest a truce between Spelling and McDermott, tensions simmered just last month as the details of their divorce proceedings surfaced.

The journey through divorce for the "Beverly Hills, 90210" star and her estranged husband took a turn when Spelling's demands emerged, as revealed in documents obtained by The Blast.

The absence of a prenuptial agreement added a layer of complexity to the divorce, as the actress sought physical custody of their children -- Beau, Finn, Hattie, and Stella -- along with a plea for spousal support.

Just days before these documents surfaced, Spelling and McDermott were observed having an emotional reunion at a storage unit. 

The encounter took a heartbreaking turn as the mother-of-five was seen in tears and appeared to toss a bag towards McDermott, hinting at the emotional strain surrounding their separation.

However, amidst these emotional moments, sources close to the couple suggest a potential silver lining. 

"Tori and Dean are in a much better space," a source disclosed, highlighting McDermott's increased involvement in their children's lives as a contributing factor to their improved dynamic.

In a candid revelation on her debut podcast episode, "misSPELLING," the TV personality offered heartfelt insights into the complexities and challenges that ultimately led to her split from McDermott. 

Spelling shared that while there was an initial passionate connection, marked by acceptance of her true self, the "honeymoon period" quickly dissolved.

As time progressed, the "A Friend to Die For" actress acknowledged the presence of "red flags," including anger issues, which gradually destroyed the foundation of their relationship. 

She also recounted how moments of tension, mainly made worse by alcohol consumption, took a toll on her emotional well-being. 

Furthermore, in the episode, Spelling shared how the dynamic shifted drastically after the arrival of their children, with the couple's focus shifting towards parenting responsibilities. 

"We always said, 'We won't be those parents that change. We'll make sure we make our relationship a priority, the two of us. We have date nights.' And everything went out the window. I became completely focused on the kids and kind of left him, in a way," Spelling confessed. 

The reality TV star also delved into the emotional strain of feeling isolated in her parental duties. In her words:

"I really felt like I was in this alone with the kids' and he was there, but he was an extra set of hands. He put the car seat in because I didn't know how to do it and things like that. Emotionally, I was it."

In the wake of his ex-wife's recent divorce filing, the "Chopped Canada" host broke his silence, offering brief yet profound insights into their relationship status. 

Per The Blast, McDermott's public statement was captured in a video. In it, he affirms that "Tori and I are good" while acknowledging that the decision to part ways was "a long time coming."

The reality TV star's words came almost a year after he initially announced their separation via social media, revealing the end of their 17-year marriage with a now-deleted heartfelt message. 

In the Instagram post, he wrote, "It's with great sadness and a very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways and start a new journey of our own." 

Despite the challenges of their impending divorce, the 57-year-old emphasized their commitment to co-parenting and prioritizing their children's well-being.
