Matthew Perry's ex is opening up about her relationship with the 'Friends' actor, claiming he was sober when the two were romantically linked.
The ‘Friends’ actor had a history of alcohol and drug abuse, and sadly, he passed away last year from “acute effects of the drug Ketamine,” according to the autopsy report. Ketamine is a drug that he was using as part of therapy to combat depression.
The autopsy noted that the Ketamine found in Perry’s system could not have been from his Ketamine therapy, as the drug’s half-life is just a few hours and his last known treatment was over one week before he passed.

“The cause of death for 54-year-old actor Matthew Langford Perry as the acute effects of ketamine. Contributing factors in Mr. Perry’s death include drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder),” the document states.
Perry’s “history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/emphysema, diabetes; drug use in past — reportedly clean for 19 months; heavy tobacco user for many years but currently not smoking; on ketamine infusion therapy with most recent therapy reportedly one and a half weeks before death,” the autopsy report stated.
The autopsy report states that “the exact method of intake in Mr. Perry’s case is unknown.”
Matthew Perry's History With Drugs and Alcohol
Matthew Perry is best known as Chandler Bing on 'Friends', where he acted alongside Jennifer Aniston(Rachel), David Schwimmer(Ross), Courteney Cox(Monica), Matt LeBlanc(Joey), and Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe).
During his 'Friends' days, Perry said that he was battling a severe addiction to alcohol and Opioids, specifically Vicodin, as he was prescribed the drug to help treat pain after a 1997 jet skiing accident.
His addiction to Vicodin continued to worsen and, in his memoir, he revealed that at one point he was taking up to 55 pills a day and weighed 128 pounds.
In addition to his Opioid abuse, Perry said he also struggled with alcohol addiction, admitting in his 2022 memoir that he would show up to the set of 'Friends' intoxicated.
The actor claims he was sober before his unexpected death.
Matthew Perry's Ex Speaks Out
Matthew Perry's ex, Maeve Quinlan has spoken out about her relationship with the late actor, telling US Weekly she “had no idea how much he was internally struggling because his main focus was always making other people happy and laughing.”
Adding, “He really thought the fame would make it all better, but it didn’t.”
When the two were romantically involved, Quinlan says he was “100 percent sober and was very open about his previous struggles."
"That was his one fully sober year, and we were practically inseparable. One of the reasons he liked being with me was that I didn’t do drugs," she continued, claiming she "never" saw Perry “take a drink or abuse any substances” when they were dating.
The One Thing Matthew Perry's Ex Regrets
In recent years, Quinlan says Perry and her didn't talk much, but after his memoir, she almost reached out -- but she didn't and that's something she regrets to this day.
"I regret to this day that I did not call Matthew to tell him I was proud of him,” she told US Weekly. “It took a lot of guts and bravery for him to write that book and be so brutally honest. I know him well enough to say he didn’t write that book for himself; he wrote that book to selflessly help others get sober by seeing his own difficult journey. I hope it helped others. I really do.”
Maeve Quinlan 'Couldn't Believe' Matthew Perry Had Passed Away
When Perry's ex heard the news that the 'Friends' star had passed, she said "It wasn’t a shock but I still couldn’t believe it happened."
"And although we hadn’t seen each other in a while, I miss him very much,” she added. “He was truly a close friend. When I drive by our old apartment building on Doheny, I think so fondly of our elevator meet-ups and the fate that building had in store for both of us, not just later for us personally, but because it’s the building we both lived in when we each got cast in the longest-running shows of both of our careers.”
