Haskell Jr. was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection to the discovery and was placed on suicide watch in the LAPD’s Valley Jail in Van Nuys.
Mei Haskell's Cause Of Death Updated
According to law enforcement, after searching for a San Fernando Valley woman and her parents last November, police found a partially dismembered woman’s body, which they later confirmed belonged to Mei Haskell, the wife of Sam Haskell Jr.
Months after Mei was found dismembered in the California dumpster, The Blast has learned that the L.A. Medical Examiner has updated her cause of death to "homicidal violence."
“When the officers responded, they discovered a dismembered female wrapped in a plastic bag. It was just outside the dumpster. They confirmed that it was human remains,” LAPD Detective Efren Gutierrez said at the time. He later confirmed that it was a torso.
Sam was charged with murder in connection with Mei's death, as well as his in-laws' deaths, at the time.

Workers Discover Human Body Parts Inside Trash Bags
Before police made the discovery, a group of day laborers said Sam Haskell Jr. hired them to help move trash bags, which were reportedly filled with rocks.
“When we picked up the bags, we could tell they weren’t rocks,” one of the workers said in Spanish, per NBC. They described the trash bags as soft and soggy and weighing about 50 pounds.
The workers began transporting the bags, however, they felt that something wasn't right and decided to pull over and check inside the bags. “I started seeing body parts, a belly button,” the worker said, adding, “I was astonished. Of course, I felt bad. We had been tricked.”
The workers said that they immediately drove to the police station after discovering the body parts. Still, somehow, they were reportedly turned away from two different stations after trying to report the incident.
Video Footage Shows The Labor Workers Lugging Garbage Bags
Surveillance footage later showed two men, who are believed to be the labor workers, dragging out what looks to be large black garbage bags down the driveway of Haskell Jr.'s home.
The two men are then seen loading the bags into a truck. After loading two garbage bags, Haskell Jr. leaves the workers and reenters his house.
