TikTok Takes Cat Janice's Song to the Top, Leaving Heartfelt Legacy

The TikTok community has joined forces to help get a terminally ill mom's final song for her son viral. It was her dying wish and one that strangers online took very seriously to make happen.
Cat Janice, a viral content creator and singer, is mom to a 7-year-old boy. The TikTok community wanted to make sure her son is taken care of after her death and helped to make her final song hit the top of the charts any way they could.
Cat Janice Shares Her Story On TikTok
As a dying wish, the TikTok community helped to get her final song, "Dance You Outta My Head" go viral for her son.
"I'm just honestly so blown away by everyone's love and how they've supported me through this and shared this story," Janice, 31, said during an interview with TODAY.com. "I really wasn't expecting to be here. I really do believe it's a miracle to be able to witness this. I'm just very happy to be here."
The singer-songwriter is leaving the rights to her music to her 7-year-old son Loren.
She shared a video on January 10 captioned, "cannot even believe this happened but I have to keep my head up. I want to leave behind every penny I have for him. Will you please pre save it and stream when it comes out? Hospice has been easier and more time with kiddo but swelling has not stopped :( ❤️❤️ prayers please," to explain the need for her song to go viral.
Another video shared shortly after further explains her wish.
"Im trying so hard to make it to my sons song release but your help pre saving the song and streaming in my bio would mean the world. My art is all I have to leave behind and im leaving it behind for my son to profit on. Huge thank you to my label @Handwritten Records and family and friends for undying support," the video is captioned.
The video received more than 11 million views and thousands of comments.
"I am going to tell you something. You will see it released. You will. Whether you transition to the next world before or after it releases— you will see it happen," one person wrote in the comment section.
Another added an update saying, "It’s January 19th!!! The song released! I’m so happy 🥰🦋."
On January 19, Janice shared an update video about the song that quickly went viral with more than 28.5 million views and 83,000 comments.
"I can't believe this is happening today, but it is, and the song has come out and I hope you guys are enjoying it, having a ton of fun and dancing because I'm in my hospice bed and that's okay because you guys are making me so happy and I've gotten hundreds of thousands of streams and messages and likes and comments," she said.
"I'm so thankful for you all and I hope you have a lot of fun cause we have a lot of reasons to celebrate and just wanna say love you."
Tons and tons of support filled the comment section of the video.
"DownLOADED, upLOADED, reLOADED and expLOADED with ❤️❤️❤️❤️We got you!!!!," one person wrote. Another added, "Your song will live on for decades! It will be one of those people randomly sing in their heads while having a morning coffee 20y from now. ✨💜"
Cat Janice's Cancer Journey Began In Late 2021
Janice, who lives in Virgina, shared that her cancer journey began in November 2021 when she felt a lump in her neck. She shared her story in a 2022 TikTok video.
"There's no easy way to talk about this, but unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma, what seems to be a sarcoma, which is a muscle cancer," she explained. "It's in my neck and it's very scary. These cancers seem to be rare, so you know, there's like a one in one million chance of me getting this. Like only a couple hundred people are diagnosed in the U.S. every year with this cancer."
Janice has kept her followers up to date on what she's going through, and has received tons and tons of support along the way. She shared the news that her cancer came back in early June 2023 in a video.
On January 6, she shared a TikTok video captioned, "Thank you for loving me. Im praying a miracle makes me through this but I think im being called Home. My last joy would be if you pre saved my song “Dance You Outta My Head” in my bio and streamed it because all proceeds go straight to my 7 year old boy im leaving behind. Please please share this, I need to leave this with him. If there is anything you need to know, is that the only opinion of yourself is your opinion. Love yourself and be gentle with others. I hope to make it through this but if not, to all a good night."
The video has received more than 53.5 million views and more than 182,000 comments.
Ophelia Nichols, better known as Mama Tot on social media, wrote, "We will dance to ur song for ever 🥺💜."
Singer Jason Derulo added, "🙏🏾 praying for you and your fam."
A GoFundMe was started in May 2022 with a goal of raising $200,000. It's raised $154,896 with donations still coming in.
