The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reportedly have plans to have a work-filled Valentine's Day.
Rather than spending the day on personal, romantic activities, the duo is said to be heading to Canada to engage with stakeholders for the One Year to Go celebrations of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.
Prince Harry And Meghan Marle's Plans For Valentine's Day
According to a report, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, are preparing for a day filled with events related to the Invictus Games for this year's Valentine's Day.
The royal couple is set to leave their Montecito residence in California, USA, and travel to Canada for the One Year to Go celebrations of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 on February 14.
During their time there, they will meet with participating nations' Winter Training Camps, including team managers, coaches, and competitors. The gathering will also serve as an opportunity for stakeholders to immerse themselves in the experience of winter adaptive sports before the upcoming competition next year on February 8 to 16, 2025.
The 2025 Invictus Games will mark the first-ever winter sports edition, as previous ones were all held in the summer or autumn months. It will also feature the likes of alpine skiing, nordic skiing, wheel curling, and skeleton, in addition to the more typical sports like volleyball, swimming, basketball, and rugby.
All About The Invictus Games
The Invictus Games was founded in 2014 by Harry, with the first edition held in London. Other editions occurred in Orlando, Toronto, and Sydney, and most recently in the Netherlands and Germany.
In April 2022, Harry broke the news about plans to hold the upcoming edition in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, to reunite wounded, injured, and sick active servicemen and veterans to engage in a multi-sports tournament.
"As Invictus continues to adapt and evolve, I am extremely excited to announce that the Invictus Games Foundation has selected Canada to host the first-ever Winter Hybrid Games in 2025," the duke said in a statement at the time, per People.
He added, "The Invictus Games Vancouver-Whistler 2025 will offer a global platform to expand the range and profile of winter adaptive sports. With deep respect, I'm also pleased to share that the Games in Canada will be held in partnership with the First Nations, in the spirit of truth and reconciliation with indigenous communities."
Why Next Year's Invictus Game Is Sentimental For Prince Harry & Meghan Markle
Next year's edition is not only the inaugural winter sports event, but its location also carries sentimental value for Harry and Meghan.
Canada is where their whirlwind romance, which captivated the world, began, although the pair first met through mutual friends in London in 2016.
Meghan had previously resided in Toronto, Canada, for several years while working on the acclaimed series "Suits." It was at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto that Harry and Meghan first publicly revealed their relationship.
On May 19 the following year, the couple exchanged vows at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, marking the beginning of their official titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They then returned to Vancouver Island, Canada, for a short stay in 2019 before informing the public of their decision to leave their royal roles.
Prince Harry Gushes About The Invictus Games
On several occasions, Prince Harry has gushed about his love for the Invictus and once shared how it has inspired him over the years.
"The Invictus community has very much been a major part of my growth and learning. Creating the Games involved listening to military and veteran families—and hearing directly from them about their lives—and that offered so much perspective," Harry told People in a cover story.
He added, "It's been a lesson in serving a purpose greater than ourselves, and the benefit that comes from that extends to both the individual and community. I truly believe we are at our best when we're in service to others, and Invictus is all about upholding that value."
Unsurprisingly, the Invictus Games is dear to Harry, having served ten years in the British military, including two tours in Afghanistan. During his time with the military, Harry rose to the rank of captain and served as a forward air controller and an Apache helicopter pilot fighting the Taliban insurgents.
