Sofia Vergara & Joe Manganiello Parted Ways Over Their Different Goals

The "Modern Family" actress opened up about her divorce in a new interview, revealing the former couple did not end their marriage over bad blood. Instead, the duo ended their longtime relationship because they weren't on the same page about their family goals.

While Vergara has a son from a previous relationship, Manganiello remains without any offspring at 47 — a status he hoped to change with his ex-wife. However, the Colombian sensation wasn't looking forward to having kids in her fifties.

She reflected on the end of the duo's relationship when asked how her personal life felt at 51. "Well, I'm newly divorced from my second husband [actor Joe Manganiello], who I was with for 10 years," Vergara began, adding:

"My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn't want to be an old mom. I feel it's not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that's not for me anymore."

"I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I'm ready to be a grandmother, not a mother," the TV personality explained via People magazine, noting that any future relationship must involve a man with kids. She doubled down on her interest in being a grandmother and revealed her plans to dote on the child, saying:

"So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children. I'm almost in menopause; it's the natural way of things. When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while, and then I'll give it back to him and go on with my life; that's what I have to do."

"I feel very fulfilled. I've done much more in my career than I ever dreamed of. I never dreamed of being an actress," the mother of one confessed. "It was an accident. I've been hosting America's Got Talent for four years, a show where I have a lot of fun."

"I'm hosting this series all over the world, I have my own clothing and beauty brand. I can't even think of complaining about anything," Vergara declared.

Vergara's revelation about what caused her separation from Manganiello comes days after she appreciated the press for being respectful in the coverage of her divorce. The "Chasing Papi" actress noted she expected the media frenzy following the duo's split as public scrutiny came with the territory.

"You're out there [in the public eye], and people know that's part of being a celebrity. I knew it was gonna happen. You can't hide those things," she explained before insisting the coverage of her divorce was better than anything she expected. In her words:

"It wasn't bad. I think, you know, I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice. And I thought that they were gonna invent more things, and you know how it usually is. I was surprised and, you know, they, they kind of just said what it was and, and that was it."

This wasn't the first time Vergara has addressed her divorce, as she also teased fans about moving on with men in NYC. During a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," the Colombian actress raved about her bountiful options in the Big Apple.

"I think that you have more options with men, also. I'm single now. So in New York, there's more people, there's not only like actors, write[rs] or directors. I think there's like a bigger… I'm going to spend more time in New York," the 51-year-old teased.
