Raise your hand if you've eaten some snow at some point in your life. Lots of hands up, right?
Actress Reese Witherspoon would have her hand up, and in fact, she even created a recipe she called "so good" and named, "Snow Salt Chocochino."
Reese Witherspoon Created A Snowy Recipe That Has Divided The Internet
"Okay, so we got a ton of snow over the past few days. We decided to make a recipe," Witherspoon, 47, said to start off her TikTok video sharing the recipe to her snow treat.
"So first, we scooped the snow into cups, and we added salted caramel syrup and some chocolate syrup, just cause we like how they taste together, and we put it on top, and then we decided to add some cold brew, just to have a yummy flavor."
After tasting her snowy recipe and declaring it, "so good," the actress named it a "snow salt chocochino." Her video quickly went viral with more than 4 million views and lots of mixed comments. Some thought it was a great idea, while others said it wasn't healthy and she shouldn't be eating snow.
"😳 No no no.. snow is not made to eat.. u can get seriously sick ☹️," one person wrote. Another said, "Me thinking about how they said rainwater is too toxic to consume now: 😬"
Another viewer shared, "Am I the only one concerned that she scooped it off of her car," to which Witherspoon replied, "It was the grill 😂 but is that bad???"
And then there were the snow-eating supporters.
"As long as you don't eat the yellow snow, you're good! 😂," said one viewer. Another added, "Hey Reese way to go. Throwing it back to a time when ya we didn’t let all the BS bother us and just enjoy the simple pleasures. 100% gonna try."
Reese Witherspoon Shared Follow Up Videos Addressing The Concern About Eating Snow
A follow up video addressing the comment, "Can you put snow in a clear cup and let it melt I just want to see if it's safe to eat first," also went viral with 4 million views.
"So there's so many people on here saying that snow is dirty, so we went and took snow from the backyard and we microwaved it and it's clear," she said as she held up the clear mason jar of melted snow. "Is this bad? Am I not supposed to eat snow?"
Lots of pro snow-eating statements flooded into the comment section.
"We survived the rusty hose water of a 1990's summer.... how bad can snow be?" wrote one viewer. "I’ve been eating snow ice cream for 60+ years and I’m fine. lol," wrote another.
Another follow up video addressed the comment, "Fallen snow can be very dirty from the air and wind but who cares. You only live one. I remember eating snow as a kid."
Witherspoon reiterated part of that statement saying, "You only live once" and it only snows where she is "maybe once a year."
"Also, I want to say something," she continued. "It was delicious. It was so good."
"It’s the subtle, but heard 'who cares' comment from the kiddo in the background for me! 😜🤣," wrote one viewer. Tons of others also left supportive comments for eating snow and making recipes out of it.
A third follow up video with more than 1 million views so far takes it one step further into "you only live once" territory.
"Talking about the snow not being filtered, I didn't grow up drinking filtered water," she said. "We drank out of the tap water. We actually put our moths on the tap."
She also said in the summer, she would drink out of the hose, and put her "mouth on the hose growing up."
An Allergist Chimed In On The Snow Eating Debate
Dr. Rubin, an allergist on TikTok, shared his thoughts on the snow-eating debate that Witherspoon unknowingly started when she shared her snack recipe using snow.
"A lot of people have been coming at you in the comment section with concern about you eating snow, and I don't think it's that big of a deal," he said, directed at Witherspoon.
"Sure, it's probably not a good idea to eat snow that looks like chocolate ice cream or lemon ice cream or strawberry ice cream, but if it's snow that's come after like the second or third snowfall and you've got some undisturbed snow, you tried it once, it's probably not a huge deal."
In addition to Dr. Rubin commenting on Witherspoon's snow treat, many other TikTokers have shared snow ice cream recipes, so it seems Witherspoon is far from alone in enjoying a snow day treat.
