The pair were married for approximately seven years and four and a half months. However, during the course of their union, they didn't welcome any child together, eliminating any issues with child support or child custody.

However, in the matter of spousal support, the Democratic Party member requested that neither he nor Govea be eligible to receive alimony. It is unsure if they have a prenuptial agreement, but that is usually the case when neither party demands spousal support.

As for the separation of their assets, the 70-year-old politician stated, "The exact nature and amount of Petitioner's separate estate is presently unknown. Petitionerwill seekleavetoamendthisPetition, asnecessary, whensameisascertained."

The estranged lovers tied the knot in August 2016 in an intimate ceremony held in central Mexico, with about 100 friends and family in attendance. The lavish event took place at a hotel in San Miguel de Allende, with the then-newlyweds having a "Mexican musical parade" through the neighborhood the night before the wedding, per CBS.

Govea is a powerhouse of her own who works in the fashion industry. Per reports, she was born in Mexico and came to the U.S. in 2004.

This isn't the first time Villaraigosa has filed for divorce from Govea; he did so in February 2022, listing their date of separation as June 2018 in the former filing. However, it seems the pair gave it another shot.

Antonio Villaraigosa Hopes To Run For Governor In 2026

In May, Villaraigosa opened up about the possibility of running for Governor of California in the coming years. The former mayor first announced his candidacy for governor in 2018 but came in third in the blanket primary election.

However, Villaraigosa is not losing hope of being a governor as he told Fox40 that he still wants to "serve." In his words: "I've spent my life in service and I’m going to continue to serve. We’ll see in what permutation in 2024 and 2026 and beyond."

When asked what that means for his political ambition and if it definitely means he will run, Villaraigosa answered, "It's not a no, but it's not a yes either. What it is, it's the truth. I aim to serve in this state and in our country because I believe in her."
