The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has reportedly been hospitalized after going under the knife for abdominal surgery.

Princess Kate will now have to pause all her royal duties until after Easter. The news of her operation was announced by Kensington Palace, which noted that the mother of three is on the path to recovery.

According to an announcement by Kensington Palace on Wednesday, the Princess of Wales had a "planned abdominal surgery" at the London clinic on Tuesday.

This operation has now caused Kate to be hospitalized as she recovers. The princess will also be unable to attend to her royal duties until after Easter.

The statement from the palace read, "The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter."

It continued, "The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness' progress when there is significant new information to share."

The palace also noted that Princess Kate "wishes to apologize to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible."

According to People Magazine, Kate's surgery was a "non-cancerous" issue. Following her hospital discharge, Princess Kate is expected to recuperate at her Windsor home, which she has lived in since 2022, with her husband, Prince William, and their kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

Reports claim William has cleared his schedule and canceled royal appointments to be by his wife's side amid her recovery.

In her most recent public appearance, Kate joined the royal family members, King Charles III and Queen Camila, during the Christmas Day service at Sandringham Church.

She also very recently celebrated her 42nd birthday. On the occasion, the royal family's official X (formerly Twitter) account extended a special birthday wish to Kate, writing: "Wishing The Princess of Wales a very happy birthday today!"

Along with the birthday shout-out from the royal family was a never-before-seen photo captured by royal photographer Chris Jackson during King Charles's coronation in May 2023.

The behind-the-scenes image features Kate with King Charles, Prince Edward, and Sophie (Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh), showcasing the crowning ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

In the picture, King Charles wears the Imperial State Crown, and Princess Kate dons a bespoke Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen headpiece along with her Royal Victorian Order robe.
