Famous musician Sinead O'Connor's cause of death has been revealed almost one year after she passed away.

O'Connor's death was announced on July 26, 2023. The singer, best known for her hit song, "Nothing Compares 2 U," passed away at the age of 53, after a tumultuous career that saw her face severe backlash for her rebellious and controversial actions, which many have now come to respect her for.

According to reports, the late Irish singer Sinead O'Connor's cause of death has finally been confirmed.

On Tuesday, January 9, the Southwark Coroners Court revealed that O'Connor passed away due to "natural causes." They added in a statement that "the coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death."

O'Connor's death was announced on July 26, 2023, with the singer's family saying in a statement to RTE, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

O'Connor gained notoriety for her performance of the smash hit song "Nothing Compares 2 U." At the 1990 Grammy Awards, the song led to her being nominated for Record of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Music Video, Short Form.

Sinead O'Connor's Life Was Riddled With Controversy

O'Connor had a very difficult life, one that was riddled with controversy. One of her most notable moments was a "Saturday Night Live" performance, during which the singer tore apart a photo of Pope John Paul II.

O'Connor was permanently banned from the show after performing her now-famous version of Bob Marley's "War" on "SNL" in 1992 as a protest against the Catholic Church. This caused her to receive significant backlash, which derailed her career.

The singer has since received acclaim from many for speaking up on significant subjects in spite of opposition from the public. O'Connor converted to Islam in 2018, changing her name to Shuhada' Davitt, and remained one until her death. The singer also struggled with the loss of her son before her passing.

Shane, O'Connor's third child with Irish folk singer Donal Lunny, committed suicide at the age of 17. Following his death, the singer penned a now-deleted tweet confirming her son's demise. She wrote at the time, "My beautiful son, Nevi'im Nesta Ali Shane O'Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace, and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace."

O'Connor has three other kids. She gave birth to Jake Reynolds, her eldest, in 1987 during her marriage to producer John Reynolds.

She had her second child, a daughter, Roisin Waters, in 1996 with Irish journalist John Waters. The singer's youngest child, Yeshua Bonadio, was born in 2006 to Frank Bonadio.

After her death, tributes poured in from all across the entertainment industry for the late O'Connor.

Actor Russell Crowe made a lengthy post praising O'Connor while sharing an encounter with the singer.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote, "There under streetlights with mist on my breath, I met Sinéad. She looked in my eyes, and uttered with disarming softness, 'Oh, it's you Russell.' She came with us back to the table and sat in the cold and ordered a hot tea."

Crowe continued, "In a conversation without fences we roamed through the recent Dublin heatwave, local politics, American politics, the ongoing fight for indigenous recognition in many places, but particularly in Australia, her warm memory of New Zealand, faith, music, movies and her brother the writer. I had the opportunity to tell her she was a hero of mine."

Singers Pink and Brandi Carlile honored O'Connor with a heartbreaking performance of her song, "Nothing Compares 2 U," during a Pink concert in Ohio.

Pink told the audience during the show, "When I was a little girl … I used to go down to the Ocean City boardwalk with my 10 dollars, and I would make a demo tape."

She added, per Us Weekly, "And it would always be either 'Greatest Love of All' by Whitney Houston or 'Nothing Compares 2 U' by Sinéad O'Connor."
