Kelly Clarkson's Children Are Banned From Social Media Until They Get Older

There are many perks to being Clarkson's child, but becoming a young influencer or keeping up with the latest buzz isn't on the table. In a new interview, the 41-year-old addressed her parenting skills, noting that her kids are banned from using social media.

According to the Texas sensation, her children's lack of social media accounts is the one rule she will never break to protect them from the negative impacts of the internet. She understood the cons of being a celebrity and wished to shield her kids from it. In her words:

"That can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye. So I have informed them they're not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it]."

The social media ban could have been a tricky situation given her co-parenting relationship with Blackstock. However, her former husband follows her wishes and ensures their kids don't break the rules under his watch.

Even if Blackstock didn't follow the social media ban in his home, Clarkson claimed she wouldn't mind. She recalled her cheeky daughter teasing her about the social media ban in her cover story for PEOPLE, saying:

"My daughter was like, 'Well, what if Dad lets me?' I'm like, 'Well, you're there four days a month. Enjoy that.' And right now, he's not letting them do it either. I'll listen when they're older, but until they have a solid argument, it's a no."

So, how does co-parenting feel? It's "so different [for everyone]," Clarkson explained, stating that "it's harder at first" because "there's so much emotion and trauma involved." But as time passes, "the easier it gets." She continued saying:

"It's hard enough when you're married and come from two different backgrounds and ways to discipline and educate. Doing that in different households can be tough."

As for motherhood, Clarkson confessed that she can be hard on herself but believes she is doing "a pretty good job" raising her two kids. She stressed that there are no perfect parents, including herself, in her words:

"I'm definitely not a helicopter mom. I like that they're independent, but I'm adamant about my schedule, making sure I'm there as much as I can be. There's no perfect parent; I'm definitely screwing up my children somehow! But I'm doing my best."

Meet Kelly Clarkson's Two Children

Clarkson welcomed her adorable little angels during her marriage to Blackstock. The former couple first met in February 2012 at Super Bowl XLVI and eloped the following year. They spent seven years together before the powerhouse vocalist filed for divorce over irreconcilable differences.

Their separation was finalized in March 2022, with the "Since U Been Gone" songstress winning primary custody of their two children. While things were still rosy, the then-lovers announced they were expecting their first child four weeks after their wedding.

They welcomed their daughter, River Rose, in Nashville on June 12, 2014. The now 9-year-old angel began making waves at 2 when she joined her mother in the 2016 Nashville Christmas Parade.

River also inspired Clarkson's 2016 children's book, "River Rose and the Magical Lullaby." This sparked more stories about the mother-and-daughter's adventures around the world.

In a 2018 interview, the proud mother claimed her daughter had the makings of an entrepreneur. "She will run a company one day because there's no way she's gonna work for anyone. She does not heed advice very well. She's just very ballsy, which is awesome." Clarkson raved, adding:

"I love that [River] is very bold, and she's progressive for 3," the singer added. "She watches Jurassic Park and loves it, and Harry Potter … it doesn't affect her, and she's just very grown up and very boss."

Clarkson doesn't play favorites, as she has said sweeter things about her son Remy, whom she welcomed on April 12, 2016. Unfortunately, the little boy suffered some hearing issues and delayed speech development when he was younger.

"He had a speech problem because he had this ear problem when he was a baby. We didn't know," Clarkson explained in 2020. "But way deep down in his ears, he got clogged up with a ton of wax where we thought, almost, he was deaf because he spoke as if he was underwater."
