Sam Asghari Drops 40 Pounds Amid Divorce From Britney Spears

Actor Sam Asghari is looking better than ever amid his divorce from pop star Britney Spears.

The 29-year-old actor filed for divorce from the 42-year-old pop star on August 16, 2023, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split according to court documents obtained by The Blast.

The two started dating after meeting on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016. He popped the question in September 2021, only two months before her controversial 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021. They tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in June 2022, but according to court documents, they separated at the end of July 2023.

The Iranian actor has been posting a lot more photos and videos that feature him exercising at the gym following his split from Britney Spears. The former personal trainer admits that he has gone through what he calls a "little transformation" amid his divorce, but denies that it is a "revenge body."

“In the past five months I’ve had a little transformation which was losing about a good 35 to 40 lbs.,” the actor told Page Six. “Sometimes when you are in a situation that you don’t get to necessarily focus on yourself, it could be challenging for you to notice [your body changes] but everybody else does."

The "Special Ops: Lioness" actor insisted that his commitment to bettering himself wasn't about “necessarily a revenge body, but a self-love sort of thing.”He went on to say, “Self-love is something everyone should practice.”

Although he has no problem showing off his fit physique now, the actor remembers how he was cut from his college football team after his weight skyrocketed to almost 300 lbs. “I was eating Doritos for breakfast, fast food, sugar, candy, no protein, a lot of carbs, and drinking sugary sodas,” Asghari told Men’s Health. “My nutrition was extremely horrible. The stress and the fear of not going anywhere [in life] combined gave me my depression.”

In order to get back in shape, the actor started working out for two hours every day and radically revamped his diet to cut out fast food and processed snacks. He started getting into modeling, which led him to later pursue a career as an actor. “I’m focusing on work at the moment,” the 29-year-old told Page Six.

However, that's not his only source of income now that he has split from the pop star. He has also opened up his own personal training company, called Asghari Fitness, which offers its members personalized training programs and seven-day meal plans for only $9 a week. He also provides workout inspiration on the brand's Asghari Fitness Instagram account.

Sam also told the outlet that he is single, adding, “I definitely won’t be joining any dating apps any time soon. That’s for sure.” He went on to joke that the only woman in his life is his Doberman puppy but noted that "in the near future" he would like to adopt another dog following his partnership with PETA.

On December 19, Sam shared two posts on Instagram announcing his new partnership with PETA. The ad encourages users to adopt, rather than buy, a new pet. Many fans were skeptical about why the brand chose Sam for the ad, especially when the organization came down on Britney in August 2023. Two weeks after the divorce made headlines, Britney announced that she had gotten a new dog named Snow, which did not sit right with the animal rights organization.

At the time, a rep for PETA released a statement to TMZ, saying, “When influential people buy puppies, puppy mills cheer and animal shelters watch the homeless-animal crisis get even worse. With this one cutesy post, Britney Spears has sentenced countless deserving dogs in shelters to more days without love, a comfy bed to curl up on, or a chance at a real life.”

“She could have been a force for good and adopted, but instead she chose to be toxic, and animals will pay with their lives,” they added, working the name of the pop star’s hit single “Toxic” into their statement.
