In September 2023, Ruby shared a side-by-side look at her physical and mental transformation. “Beautiful bodies - weight loss and toning up has been a byproduct of inner work... Cooking, moving, sleeping, accepting where I am and still getting back up,” she wrote in the caption as she discussed her process.
“It’s not been an overnight thing; it took months for me to completely surrender to my lifestyle adaptations with the aim to better my physical, spiritual, and emotional health; small changes quickly became big wins,” she explained.
“I would have panic attacks at the thought of stepping foot in a gym, I would pretend I wasn’t out of breath after climbing stairs and run to the bathroom to catch it back, I would starve myself all day, then binge, binge, binge, feel like c--- then do it all over again,” she confessed.
“In the first picture, I was not happy. I felt like I’d lost not only my mind but my will to take care of my inner child and cook for her, clean for her, work for her, get out and live for her,” she continued. “With the guidance of @o.fit.uk @muyi.o.fit and my friends, I’m in love with being more active and self-caring than ever before. Health is wealth,” she concluded as fans applauded her candid approach to her weight loss journey.
Ruby Barker Claims She Had ‘No Support’ From Netflix Amid Mental Health Breakdown

The 26-year-old actress revealed that she had a mental health breakdown when the show first premiered. While discussing her mental health struggles on Oxford University’s LOAF Podcast in October 2023, (via The Daily Beast), Ruby said that she got “no support” from Netflix during her first psychotic break in 2019, right after she wrapped production on the first season of “Bridgerton.”
She went on to say that she had a second mental health breakdown in 2022 but claimed that “nobody” from Netflix reached out to her at that time, either. “Not a single person from Netflix, not a single person from Shondaland, since I have had two psychotic breaks from that show, have even contacted me or even emailed me to ask me if I’m okay or if I would benefit from any sort of aftercare or support,” she said. “Nobody.”
“When I went into hospital a week after shooting ‘Bridgerton’ Season 1, it was really covered up and kept on the down-low because the show was going to be coming out,” she explained. “In the run-up to the show coming out, I was just coming out from hospital, my Instagram following was going up, I had all these engagements to do… My life was changing drastically overnight and yet there was still no support and there still hasn’t been any support all that time. So I was trying really, really hard to act like it was ok and that I could work and that it wasn’t a problem.”
