An autopsy report detailing the investigation into Matthew Perry'sdeath, says the 'Friends' star did not take his own life.
According to the autopsy report, obtained by The Blast, the actor is not believed to have been suicidal thoughts and has no known attempts to take his own life.
In the report, an unknown woman informed police that she spoke to Perry a few days before his unexpected death, and he seemed to be "in good spirits."
Although Perry had a history of depression, the unnamed woman said that the actor told her he would "never kill himself" and that there were no indications he wanted to end his own life.
It's unclear why they went down this road of investigation, but obviously, it was something they questioned due to the way he was found unconscious.
Matthew Perry's Death Ruled An 'Accident'
Despite having a history of addiction, after a thorough investigation, Matthew Perry's death was ruled an accident, meaning there is no belief that Perry intentionally ended his life.
According to the autopsy report, ketamine was found in the "Friends" star's stomach. and officially caused his death. Although he was utilizing ketamine therapy at the time of his death for anxiety and depression, his last known treatment overseen by a medical professional was over one week before he passed. Investigators concluded that “the exact method of intake of the drug found in his system is “unknown.”
"At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression," the document states.
Perry was reportedly "clean for 19 months," but he was a heavy tobacco user for many years. According to his assistant, he was not currently smoking cigarettes after he previously smoked two packs per day.
Matthew Perry Found Unresponsive In Pool
On October 28, police responded to a 911 call to assist with a possible “water rescue” at Matthew Perry’s Pacific Palisades home. When they arrived, they found the 54-year-old “Friends” actor in the heated section of his pool, unresponsive.
The autopsy report stated that “drowning contributes due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness; coronary artery disease contributes due to exacerbation of ketamine-induced myocardial effects on the heart. Buprenorphine effects are listed as contributory, even though not at toxic levels, due to the additive respiratory effects when present with high levels of ketamine.”
Ketamine is approved for use at high doses as an anesthetic in the operating room. Even though ketamine has been FDA-approved and legalized for use as a general anesthetic since the 1970s, it can be abused as a recreational drug.
Lower dosage of ketamine is not FDA-approved, and those injections are used “off-label” to treat depression, pain, and other mental health/substance use disorders.
Matthew Perry's Book Might Have Been Cry For Help
Before his unexpected death, “Friends” star Matthew Perry released a raw memoir, where he opened up about his entire life, including his mental health and his addictions. In that memoir, there is a quote that may have been a cry for help.
“My mind is out to kill me, and I know it,” Perry said in his memoir. “I am constantly filled with a lurking loneliness, a yearning, clinging to the notion that something outside of me will fix me. But I had had all that the outside had to offer.”
Throughout many years of his life, the ‘Friends’ star struggled with mental health, drug addiction, and alcohol addiction, which he had previously stated was a painful time in his life.
