Each year, the White House releases a Christmas video for the public, and this year was no exception.

This year's version, which First Lady Jill Biden posted on X, featured a custom rendition of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's interpretation of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite” by dancers from the New York City tap company Dorrance Dance.

It starts with a colorfully dressed female dancer making her way through a festively decorated White House hallway while the sound of some exquisite brass instruments plays in the background. Soon, other dancers join her, all adorned in artistic attire, tapping their way through various rooms adorned with decorations befitting the festive season.

Since its release earlier in the day, the almost three-minute-long video has faced severe criticism from different corners.

Some of the X netizens even went as far as comparing the video with that of then-first lady Melania Trump's version posted in 2020.

A person wrote, "Is this the White House in DC or is this The Capitol of Panem from The Hunger Games? I honestly can’t tell anymore. All I know is it’s Jill Biden’s dystopian hellhole."

"How utterly tacky, tasteless, and ANTI Christmas," said another person, adding a video of the former first lady's version along with the comment. "Melania's was tasteful, seasonal, appealed to everyone, and was absolutely breathtaking and gorgeous."

Some viewers even lamented its perceived "Hunger Games aesthetic," suggesting that the opulent display was not in line with the holiday spirit.

One other person commented, "It's awful and classless. Wouldn't expect anything else from this corrupt administration!" while another mentioned, "This got progressively weirder the longer it went on."

It wasn't all gloomy in the comment section; some X netizens praised the work, although they appeared to be in the minority.

"This is an incredible display of talent with stellar production value! Thanks for bringing such joy to this holiday season," one happy fan said.

"I totally love it, Ms. Biden as much as we have showed the love for your playful creative side and arts," a second person mentioned.

It comes after a recent report claimed that Jill is actively involved in President Joe Biden's administration, playing a role in the selection of officials and shielding him from demanding events.

This alleged level of involvement by the First Lady has led to speculations about Joe's capacity to handle his current presidential responsibilities and potential future ones if he secures reelection in 2024.

Per Politico, a former senior adviser close to the couple noted that Jill is always Joe's "final gut check" and that she is usually in the "room when senior campaign staff is presenting a strategy to her husband."

It is also rumored that she would take on an active role in garnering votes for her husband's reelection.

"She can reach suburban women, in particular, in a way that really resonates with them. She is really effective in talking about how the Biden agenda is good for moms, for women, and for working women," said Kate Bedingfield, a former White House communications director.

"I think she brings a credibility that comes from having kept her job as a teacher, even as they came into the White House, both when he was V.P. and now."
