SZA Is Content After Reaching Her Goals And Gaining The Respect Of Her Peers

For SZA, there is no such thing as greed in her dictionary, as she is pretty content with her current level of success in the music industry. The "Kill Bill" singer, born Solána Imani Rowe, clarified she will not be competing to reach greater heights after achieving all the goals she set at the start of her career.

She dropped the bombshell news in her conversation with Zane Lowe on "Apple Music," telling the host she had reached a place of "f— it" in her career. According to the 34-year-old, she already met all her expectations with the success of her 2017 debut album "Ctrl."

"I'm in a space now where f— it with everything on the creative side. The business side is scary, but on the creative side, it's kind of just like, 'Nah, I don't have any more goals, so I might as well just try at this point,'" SZA explained:

"I don't have any more goals, and that sounds terrible, but career-wise, it's just like — I keep saying that, nobody believes me, but it's just like you don't understand. Well, these are my goals."

The media personality listed everything she has achieved so far: "I have already gone platinum; I didn't think I would ever go platinum. I sold a bunch of records. I got to meet Stevie Wonder, I got to meet Beyoncé and work with her, I got to meet Frank Ocean." The list continued with SZA noting:

"My mom came, and my dad came to all these cool countries to see me perform. I've had sold-out shows. I got to headline a festival. Like, what else do I want? I'm nominated for Grammys. I've won a Grammy. I'm done, for me, personally. So this, anything past this, is so much more than I like wanted, thought of, dreamed of."

When Lowe noted it must be freeing not to have a bar of expectations, the singer agreed but clarified her hard work was to earn the respect of her peers. "I never did it for the bar; I did it for respect. So for me, that bar like the accolades are cool, but um, I was really just doing it for respect to show that no, I'm smart because I didn't finish school," she confessed.

Because she did not have a degree to prove her wit, the 34-year-old noted she used her songwriting skills to convince others of her intelligence. "The respect was more important to me than the accolades," she continued. "That is the success to be respected amongst my peers, for like who I am not like on some 'Oh you're respected cause you sold mad records.'"
