August Ames' memory was honored Thursday night by adult film performers who boldly wore shirts displaying the last words Ames tweeted before taking her own life: "f*** y'all."
Pornstars Katrina Jade and Jessy Jones attended the XBIZ Awards, an annual show honoring adult film stars and creators, in custom-made shirts displaying the expletive on Thursday night.
The outfit choice was made not only to honor Ames, but also to raise anti-bullying awareness within the industry, Jones tells The Blast. He says while performers celebrated the tribute, a handful of XBIZ Awards organizers were none too pleased.
Jones hopes the move will both honor his friend and highlight the need for the adult industry to take care of its performers mental and physical health. He says, "The industry needs to take a stand against bullying ... we won't let the world forget August or what happened to her."
Following Ames' passing, the awards show faced backlash from many performers publicly demanding its host Jessica Drake step down due to her alleged role in cyberbullying Ames.
