Jennifer Aniston is opening up about the last conversation she had with her beloved friend and co-star, Matthew Perry.
Perry unfortunately passed away on October 28 after he was found drowned in his jacuzzi. The "Friends" star was only 54, and his death caused a deep void in the lives of his co-stars, especially Aniston.
In her first interview since his tragic passing, Aniston denied rumors that Perry was deep in his addiction struggles in his final days.
Jennifer Aniston Says Matthew Perry Wasn't 'In Pain' Before He Died
Aniston for the first time spoke up about Perry's state of mind before he died. "He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know," she declared while fighting back tears.
The actress, who played the role of Rachel Green, continued, "I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy."
Seemingly shutting down the speculations that Perry might have relapsed before he drowned, Aniston told Variety, "I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard."
Perry's ex Kayti Edwards claimed the actor relapsed and might have taken drugs in the weeks leading up to his death.
For the interview, Aniston was joined by her "The Morning Show" co-star Reese Witherspoon, who was also a guest star on "Friends." Witherspoon about up about her experience with Perry and the bond all the co-stars shared.
"You all were so close. It's incredible what was born of those friendships, and how you guys have always taken care of each other for years and years. It's really beautiful and set standards for our business, as well, with the way you respected each other," Witherspoon explained.
She continued, "I feel lucky that I got to be on that show and I walked in like Alice in Wonderland, watching the most popular cast do this whole thing. I remember going home and going, oh, they're in another league. They're on another planet on comedy levels that I’ve never seen my entire life, pivoting on a dime and working on each other’s energy and it was extraordinary."
As for the outpouring of love the late Perry received following the news of his death, Aniston described it as "beautiful," before adding, "I hope he can know that he was loved in a way he never thought he was."
Jennifer Aniston Shared Special Text From Matthew Perry
Aniston shared quite a close bond with Perry, especially off-screen and after "Friends." While promoting his memoir "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing," he often spoke about how the 54-year-old played a huge role in his sobriety journey.
Hence, it came as no surprise when reports claimed that she struggled deeply with his loss. According to sources, Aniston was the first to arrive at Perry's funeral held at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills on November 3.
The insider explained that Aniston "kept to herself" at the high-profile gathering, which was attended by her other co-stars, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, and Matt Le Blanc.
Days after the funeral, Aniston finally broke her silence about her friend's passing on social media. Alongside a throwback photo of them, she uploaded a screenshot of a text exchange. In it, Perry spoke about how making Aniston laugh made his day.
"Oh boy this one has cut deep... Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before," she began her statement. "We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love."

She continued, "Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply. He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the 6 of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were."
Aniston further explained that Perry loved to make people laugh while he was alive because "his life literally depended on it." She concluded her tear-jerking tribute, writing:
"Matty, I love you so much and I know you are now completely at peace and out of any pain. I talk to you every day… sometimes I can almost hear you saying “could you BE any crazier? Rest little brother. You always made my day…"
