Rapper Nicki Minaj is opening up about why she decided to get a breast reduction -- which came after attending the 2022 Met Gala.
The 41-year-old wore a Burberry look to the event — which featured a very cleavage-forward top paired with leather pants and a ruffled train. That outfit is the reason she decided to go forward with a breast reduction.
Nicki Minaj Gets Breast Reduction After 2022 Met Gala
When trying on her outfit for the 2022 Met Gala, Minaj instantly noticed how her chest area was the main attraction.
“I did my fittings, I told them I loved this hat and I loved what the outfit was giving, but I said, ‘You guys, look, these boobs are going to be spilling out,’” she recalled saying before heading to the red carpet.
“I knew before we even left the room that the b--bs were about to have a night of their own,” Minaj added.
This comes after the 40-year-old rapper opened up about body positivity and her breast reduction. “I’m not in favor of body positivity if it means unhealthy bodies. That’s bull. It’s not believable, so let’s stop pretending,” she told Variety after being named the magazine's newest cover girl. “Recently I had to get a breast reduction, and actually I love it.”
The “Bang Bang” artist continued, “I used to want a bigger butt, and now I look back and realize how silly that was. So — love your curves, and love your non-curves. There’s nothing wrong with any of it.”
She then added how no matter your shape or color, you need to embrace yourself and your body, while simultaneously acknowledging that it’s not easy, not even for her.
“I just looked at a video that I posted on Instagram when I was 25, and I would fucking pay to look like that right now,” she told the magazine. “But today I can say that I’m at peace with who I am and how I look,” she said, adding, “I have to say this as a Black woman, though. I’ve made certain choices for my son, to not give him sweets and candy and juices, because of illnesses like diabetes that run in our community.”
“I’ve had a lot of time to figure myself out,” Minaj then confessed. “The idea of accepting what you can’t change—it just never clicked with me before. Now I understand.”
Minaj also went on to explain how she knows many of her fans crave fame and fortune, but she wants them to “stay in school” as she is a “huge believer in higher education.”
Nicki Minaj On Pregnancy and Motherhood
In July 2020, Nicki Minaj announced that she was expecting her first child Her son then came on September 30, whom she refers to publicly as “Papa Bear”.
Following her pregnancy, she admits she felt “rushed” to get back into shape, and she wishes it wasn’t that way. She wants the pressure of body image for new moms to go away.
In order to do so, she wants to shift her social media focus to connect with more mothers. “There are questions that you can’t just google,” Minaj told the magazine. “Every day a mom has to wake up and be a supermom no matter what they’re faced with.”
Nicki Minaj On Raising Awareness Surrounding Drug Addiction
The rapper also opened up about mental illness when speaking with the magazine after being named the latest cover girl.
“It’s gotten so easy to be alone physically, where young people spend 12, 16 hours a day in their rooms on their phones, looking at these false realities, comparing themselves,” she stated. “I’ve seen artists gone way too soon, and I wonder if that could have been avoided if they’d just had the chance to talk about what they were going through.
The “Barbie World” singer then opened up about her own drug addiction, which she says stemmed at a young age from her late father, who had an addiction to crack cocaine.
“I think about watching my father go back and forth, and I just wish that at the time I understood that he wasn’t doing it because he wanted to,” she admitted, adding, “I thought that he was making a conscious effort to be addicted to a drug that would have him steal his children’s video games and sell them for money.”
