Jonathan Majors Trial Day 7: Actor Begged Accuser Not To Go To Hospital In Old Text Exchange

Actor Jonathan Majors'ex-girlfriend and accuser, Grace Jabbari, took the witness stand for a fourth consecutive day, during which an old text exchange between the former couple was read.

In the text messages, Majors seems to tell Jabbari not to go to the hospital for her injuries, noting that it could cause an investigation into a possible altercation they had before that happened in March.

In the previous hearing, Jabbari was grilled over footage of her from the night of the attack, where she was seen going to a nightclub and carrying out various activities with the hand she claimed was severely injured because of Majors' alleged attack.

In a series of text messages read on the seventh day of Majors' trial, the Marvel star seemed to admit to attacking Jabbari in an incident that preceded his alleged attack in a car. Majors begged his ex in the text exchange not to go to the hospital to treat herself, noting that it could cause an investigation even if she "lied."

"I fear you have no perspective of what could happen if you go to the hospital," the actor told Jabbari in a text message from September 2022. "They will ask you questions, and as I don't think you actually protect us, it could lead to an investigation even if you do lie, and they suspect something."

He added, "It's just fake," but it's unclear what exactly Majors was referring to as "fake." There was no context to this given in court.

In reply to his message, Jabbari seemed ready to protect Majors from being implicated, assuring the actor that she would lie to the doctor about her injury.

Jabbari, who was charged to read out the text messages to the jury, said tearfully, "I will tell the doctor I bumped my head." At this point, the 30-year-old got overwhelmed with emotions, prompting Assistant District Attorney Kelli Galaway to take over from her.

Galaway continued from where Jabbari stopped: "I will tell the doctor I bumped my head if I go. I'm going to give it one more day, but I can't sleep and I need some stronger pain killers. That's all: why would I tell them what really happened when it's clear I want to be with you?"

In response to Jabbari's insistence on going to a hospital, Majors threatened to commit suicide if she followed through, despite her assuring the actor that she would protect him by lying about her head injury.

Majors wrote at the time, "Last night I considered killing myself versus coming home... I need love too. Or maybe I'm such a monster and horrible man, I don't deserve it. And I should just kill myself. In this way, my existence is miserable, I want to die."

Jabbari eventually seemed to give in to Majors' plea, replying, "I will not go to the doctor if you don't feel safe with me doing so, or don't trust me to. I promise you I would never mention you but understand your fear."

Several other texts from the September 2022 incident were read by the prosecutor, including one where Majors seemed adamant about committing suicide because Jabbari refused to hug him after their spat.

"I'm a monster, a horrible man, not capable of love. I'm killing myself soon," the actor said at the time, to which Jabbari responded, "Jonathan, you can't say this I'm going to have to tell someone."

These old text messages considered Monileux evidence, were previously revealed in a pretrial filing by the prosecutors in October, per People magazine.

According to the news outlet, this earlier incident of alleged abuse was previously ruled inadmissible. However, after a series of questions during the cross-examination of Jabbari, which the presiding judge, Judge Michael Gaffey, said were too vague, the defense inadvertently made way for the prosecutors to present the text messages from the past incident before the jury.

After reading the old text messages, Galaway turned the focus of her re-direct questioning of Jabbari to the incident from March 2023. She questioned Jabbari on why she had initially told emergency personnel that she had no idea how she had become injured.

Jabbari responded that she was "just scared of the consequences of it" and that she "still wanted to protect" Majors.

Galaway then asked, "Ms. Jabbari, Do you know who caused your injuries on March 25, 2023?" and Jabbari replied, "I do," adding that it was "the defendant, Jonathan Majors."

During Jabbari's cross-examination on Thursday, Priya Chaudhry, one of Majors' lawyers, presented the dancer with video footage of her outing to a nightclub within hours after the alleged attack.

Chaudhry questioned Jabbari about the video, which showed the 30-year-old seemingly using the hand she claimed was hurt during Majors' alleged attack. Earlier, the lawyer had asked the professional dancer if she was right-handed, which she affirmed.

Jabbari was then shown using her injured hand to lift a champagne glass, arrange her hair, and go through her bag in the video clip displayed in court for the jury.

"You picked up the lime with your right hand?" Chaudhry asked Jabbari. "And you put the lime in your mouth? You sucked on the lime, and then you put the rest of the lime rind back on the bar with your right hand, correct?"

In response to the inquiries, Jabbari revealed that she was ignorant of the severity of her injuries due to an adrenaline rush until she slept and woke up the following day feeling "like [she] got hit by a bus."

During the cross-examination, Jabbari got very emotional and at one point left the witness stand to take a break, with Majors watching on from his seat.

The actor faces up to one year in prison if found guilty of assault and harassment.
