Iman Shumpert Denies 'Cruel Treatment' Allegations Amid Teyana Taylor Divorce

Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor's divorce continues to get ugly, with the basketballer slamming his estranged wife's claims of cruel treatment.

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Shumpert is asking the court to dismiss Taylor's claims that she was endangered while she was married to him.

In the filing, the former New York Knicks player is asking the judge to dismiss Taylor's claims that the reason she wants the marriage to end is because she felt endangered.

Usually, when celebrities file for divorce, they cite "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. However, in the songwriter's case, she claimed "cruel treatment" as grounds for their divorce. By definition, it means "willful infliction of pain bodily or mental ... [that] reasonably justifies apprehension of danger to life, limb, or health."

In the new filing from Shumpert, the former basketballer is poking at his estranged wife's reason, claiming that Taylor has not proved he made her feel endangered despite her allegations. He wants the court to strike out her reason and replace it with an "irretrievable broken bond" as grounds for divorce.

In addition, Shumpert is calling out the "A Thousand and One" actress' claims that he has been irresponsible with the care of their two daughters, Junie, 7, and Rue Rose, 3.

Recall that Taylor and Shumper called off their marriage of ten years months ago, with the singer making the first move. She initially filed the divorce docs under the initials in a bid to keep the proceeding super private.

She, however, confirmed they were going their separate ways in September after cheating rumors circulated. Taking to Instagram to share a playful photo of her ad Shumpert, Taylor assured her fans that she remains good friends and co-parent with her ex-partner.

"Not too much on my best friend! In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while. To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ isn’t one reason for our departure. We are still best friends and great business partners, and we are one hell of a team when co-parenting our two beautiful children. Most importantly, we are FAMILY & in the ten years together, seven years married, we ain’t ever played with or about THAT," the statement read.

The "Hurry" songstress continued, explaining why she spoke out, adding, "The only reason I'm even sharing THIS part of the chat is because the narratives are getting a little out of hand & it's unfair to all parties involved. I hope this provided some clarity for you all. Okay, AunTey, I'm taking you all back out of the chat. Bye!"

Despite Taylor's friendly separation announcement, reports surfaced that she actually filed for divorce eight months prior and accused Shumpert of being a jealous husband. She alleged that he was envious of her fame and was insecure about being good enough for her, even though he was earning way more.

She reportedly cited instances where Shumpert would be annoyed when people asked for her photographs while they were at public events together. According to the BET Award winner even when the former Cavaliers player signed a $40 million contract, he was jealous of the fame she achieved with her acting career.

In the filing, the 32-year-old New York City native alleged Shumpert was "treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage."

She claimed she "began to intentionally dim her light for her husband to try to have a harmonious and peaceful marriage" as Iman "became more and more angry" about her popularity. Things reportedly got so bad that she began turning down acting and reporting opportunities because of her estranged husband.

Following the details of her divorce making the headlines, Taylor released a statement, declaring that she wanted the divorce to remain private.

"I mind my business, don’t bother nobody & y’all know I’ve never played about my children, family & our privacy. I have not spoken on this private matter to any media outlets or blogs etc. So everyone claiming “Teyana said” didn’t get any statements directly from ME. These statements were taken from private court documents that were leaked to the public."

Expressing disappointment about how something so private was exposed, Taylor concluded, "Protecting my family is one thing I’ve ALWAYS done & for my children, I will continue to do so. Please if y'all love y'all play nieces Junie & Rue like y'all have shown, please allow myself & my family some privacy to resolve this matter in peace."
