$29 Celery Spotted Among Other Ridiculously Overpriced Groceries!

How much is that celery? And those cucumbers?

How many times have you bought vegetables or fruit and never got around to eating it before they needed to be discarded? We've all done it. But at least most of us didn't spend upwards of $20 for said tossed fruits and veggies, right?

One TikTok creator has been sharing videos to show the insane prices she's found at "bougie" grocery chain, Erewhon, and her social media followers are shocked!

Makes you do a double-take, doesn't it? Seeing a label on a box of cut-up vegetables or fruit that's in the range of $20 to $30 just feels wrong. TikTok creator Vanessa, who goes by vanessaleen on the app, is sharing the information she's come across while shopping in what many call a "boujie" grocery store - Erewhon.

In a video shared about two weeks ago that's pinned to the top of Vanessa's TikTok page, she shares the shocking news about how much a box of sliced cucumbers cost at Erewhon. The video has received more than 6.4 million views and nearly 3,00 comments.

The video simply shows the box of sliced cucumbers and the cost. The label reads: 2.865 lb, $9.49 lb, $27.19. In the caption, Vanessa guessed that it would cost $9, so she was quite off.

"As someone who is not from the U.S. I don't believe Erewhon is real, no one can convince me otherwise," one follower wrote in the comments.

Another added, "Were they cut by Kendall Jenner or something for that price they better be. ?"

In another video, Vanessa shares the price of a box of chopped celery. At just under three pounds, Erewhon's celery is $26.95!

Many viewers wanted to know who needs that much-chopped celery, which seems like a very valid question! Others just wanted to know why everything is so overpriced there. And then some complained about the amount of plastic the store is using for the crazy-priced veggies.

"They’re basically out of their minds at this point.. just because they can," one viewer shared. Another added, "I would have to work almost two hours to get that celery."

Vanessa also shared some other foods and their unbelievable prices. In one video she shares a jar of cream of spinach soup that costs $49 for just 32 ounces of soup.

One person wanted to know about the "bottle deposit."

"Is the $3 bottle deposit part of the $49 or an additional $3? ?," they asked. Another viewer responded, "Probably additional at the register ? that’s how my can deposits work in my state," and another added, "Wait you don't even get to keep the jar for that?"

Viewers seem to really enjoy the game of trying to guess the price, with one follower saying, "I love this. This is like bougie food Jeopardy." But at the same time, most people cannot believe this is real life and that people actually pay these hugely inflated prices for food that would cost a lot less at another store.

In a video showing the cost of an 11-ounce jar of almond butter being $18, viewers thought maybe the high-priced brainwashing was working.

"Is that a good deal or have they brainwashed me ??‍♀️," one person said. "Whaaat that can't be right. Only 18 for almond butter? I guessed 50," said another.
