Confirmation of Nyong'o and Jackson's relationship surfaced through recent photos following speculations that they were an item.
The couple first sparked dating rumors in October when they attended a Janelle Monáe concert in Los Angeles after their respective splits from their former partners.
While speaking to the Daily Mail, an insider revealed that their "friendship blossomed into a romance."
"Things have slowly turned to romance between the two," the source shared. "They have been amazing friends for a long time and Josh didn't want to ruin that."
"But as they've hung out more and more and dealt with their breakups, dealing with it together has added another level to their friendship. Now it is a physical relationship. They are a couple," the insider added.
The New Couple Are Reportedly Taking Things Slow As They 'Heal'
After they were spotted together in October, sources shared with the outlet that Jackson and Nyong'o were taking things slowly as they navigated through recent breakups.
The source shared: "Joshua has a type and Lupita definitely fits that to a tee. But they are just friends, it is still a little early for Joshua to start dating again."
"Could he be an item with Lupita down the road? Without question... They are both still going through it with their recent breakups and still are looking to heal," the insider added.
Another source described the "Fatal Attraction" star as "heartbroken" over his split from Turner-Smith. However, insiders clarified that their divorce was amicable, with no foul play involved and their marriage had simply "run its course."
Lupita Nyong'o & Joshua Jackson's Split From Their Former Partners
When the romantic connection between Jackson and Nyong'o began to surface in October, the "US" actress was still publicly with boyfriend Selema Masekela at the time, but soon after, she quickly deleted photos with Masekela from her Instagram.
Following the concert, she announced her split with Masekela, saying that she finds herself "in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception."
She continued, "I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, 'Whatever, my life is better this way.' But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love."

"And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass. The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness," Nyong'o's post continued. "I hope it's true… I share this to keep it [100] and hoping [sic] that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it."
She concluded her message by writing: "Let's face our pain so we don't spread it."
On the other hand, Jackson was also dealing with the end of his four-year marriage to Jodie Turner-Smith, who filed for divorce in October. The former couple agreed to joint custody of their child, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split.
