Rapper Jeezy claims his estranged wife, former host of "The Real," Jeannie Mai, is "interfering" with his ability to have a relationship with their daughter.
According to a legal document obtained by The Blast, Jeezy is accusing Mai of interfering with his parenting time, stating that the informal agreement they have in place isn't working, and is hoping for the court to address the situation.
Jeezy filed to divorce Mai in September and requested for joint custody of Monaco.
Jeezy Files For An Official Custody Order With Jeannie Mai
In the legal filing, Jeezy is accusing Mai of acting like a "gatekeeper" whenever he wants to spend time with his daughter.
He notes that they have already agreed upon a visitation schedule that will run until the end of the year, but Jeezy believes the situation might cause them to have issues with co-parenting.
"[Mai] has acted as a gatekeeper when it comes to [Jeezy] exercising parenting time with [Monaco]" in regards to the rapper's parenting rights as a father.
The legal filing notes that Mai's "interference" with Jeezy's relationship with his daughter is "causing confusion and tension" between the former couple and is putting a strain on the development of Jeezy's relationship with Monaco.
It continues, "As such, it is necessary at this point to separate, structure and clearly define the parties' temporary legal and physical custody rights and set a parenting time schedule consistent with the best interests of the Child."
It's important to note Jeezy doesn't believe his ex-wife is doing it on purpose. The rapper says he "does not believe that (she) is acting maliciously or with specific intent to harm (his) relationship with the child." Specifically, the legal filing makes this point several times, explaining it happens in situations like this one.
Jeezy Breaks Silence On The End Of His Marriage To Jeannie Mai
Jeezy recently spoke out, via a representative, on the end of his union to Mai, noting that he still loves the talk show host.
He noted that the decision "was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart," adding that his "love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart."
Jeezy continued, "Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship and I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves. During this period, I kindly request that you respect our family's privacy as we focus on healing."
Jeannie Mai Was Reportedly 'Devastated' By Jeezy's Move To Divorce Her
After Jeezy's divorce filing in September, Mai reportedly tried to find common ground in order to save their marriage.
A source told People magazine that the talk show host was "hurt and devastated" by the rapper's decision to separate, adding that "she got married to stay married" and is "committed to trying to save her marriage."
"They've had issues for a long time, but things got really hard over the last few months," another source shared with the news outlet. "He spends nearly all his time in Atlanta, and she was flying back and forth between there and LA. She was scaling back a bit and trying to spend more time in Atlanta to work on their issues."
The insider added, "She obviously knew they had problems, but she wasn't expecting a divorce. Now she's trying to figure out what her future looks like and where she'll be living."
According to other reports, Jeezy and Mai are still living under the same roof, which has led to "awkward" moments between the former lovers.
