Matthew Perry Gets Loving Tribute During Thanksgiving Day Parade

Matthew Perry received a sweet tribute at the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

The salute was delivered subtly in a performance outside the iconic superstore. Onlookers got to see singer Jax take her place on top of a Toys 'R' Us float while performing a cover of Jet's 2003 song, "Are You Gonna Be My Girl."

The presentation was even more memorable thanks to the singer-songwriter's outfit of choice, a graphic hoodie featuring a shot from a beloved scene in the television sitcom "Friends." 

Jax, real name Jaclyn Cole Miskanic, was the cynosure of all eyes as she subtly honored Matthew nearly one month after he was found unresponsive in his hot tub. The "American Idol" superstar donned a grey sweater highlighting a Thanksgiving scene from "Friends," which ran from 1994 to 2004.

In the image, Courteney Cox's character, Monica is seen wearing a turkey on her head while Chandler Bing, the role embodied by the late actor, looks shocked.

Observant viewers were quick to notice the 27-year-old's attempt to honor the "A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon" star and they promptly took to social media to praise her for the act.

One viewer tagged the songstress, gushing, "@Jax u were great in the parade-love love the sweatshirt tribute to Matthew Perry-Happy Thanksgiving," as a second agreeably wrote, "I loved your tribute to #MatthewPerry #ChandlerBing ❤️?. Happy Thanksgiving Jax!."

Alongside a picture of Jax wearing the grey hoodie with her mic in her hand, a third Macy's Thanksgiving Parade onlooker added, "This shirt is amazing. Great tribute to #matthewperry ❤️ #MacysParade."

"Love Jax sweatshirt for #matthewperry Thanksgiving tribute ?? #MacysParade #Thanksgiving #Jax," a fourth person penned above another view of the long sleeved hoodie, and a fifth declared, "#Jax wearing a hoodie with Matthew Perry has my heart melting. ? #MacysParade #Thanksgiving."

Recounting what transpired in the showcased scene, it came from the iconic '90s show's fifth season, titled "The One With All The Thanksgivings." In this episode, the pals exchange stories about their worst Thanksgivings while Monica attempts to humiliate Chandler by seducing him into taking off his clothes as payback for once calling her "fat"' in a flashback scene.

However, her plans go awry when she mistakenly drops a knife, nearly severing his toe. In the present day, Chandler is upset about the weight comment and storms out. Later, Monica tries to break the ice by placing a turkey on her head, complete with a fez and sunglasses.

Unfortunately, activities at the parade temporarily cooled when a protest unfolded, with participants gluing themselves to the road, blocking the route, and chanting "Free Palestine."

The protest, led by pro-Palestinian activists, numbering around 30, saw people enter the streets, glue themselves to the ground, and aim to disrupt the event to draw attention to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The demonstrators spotted white jumpsuits with red paint splatters and scaled barricades along Sixth Avenue, entering the area around 49th Street with the intention of disrupting the annual parade ceremony. 

They displayed signs and messages of protest on their clothes and chanted "Free Palestine! From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," a phrase perceived by some as anti-Semitic. Additionally, the protesters showcased the words "genocide," "capitalism," and "colonialism," along with the statement "Liberation for Palestine and Planet."

As seen in clips posted on social media, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the disturbance, arresting the protesters who were upsetting the flow of activity at the event.

The uniformed cops also diverted the balloons and the rest of the parade amid the arrests. Even though an unspecified number of arrests were made, it remains to be seen if the protesters will be charged for their actions. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden expressed in a Thanksgiving Day address:

"We have to remind ourselves how blessed we are to live in the greatest nation on the face of the earth. Today is about coming together, giving thanks for this country we call home. And thanks to all the firefighters, police officers, first responders and our troops, some of whom are stationed abroad."
