Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith seem to have an amicable divorce, as the Canadian actor has agreed to joint custody of their minor daughter.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Jackson finally responded to Turner-Smith's divorce filing after one month, and the estranged couple are seeing eye-to-eye on the custody of their child.
We broke the news that the "Queen & Slim" actress pulled the plug on their almost two-year marriage.
Joshua Jackson Responds To Jodie Turner-Smith's Divorce Filing
In the filing, Jackson agrees with Turner Smith's claim that "irreconcilable differences" are the reason for their breakup. Plus, he agrees they should have joint legal and physical custody of their 3-year-old daughter, Juno Rose Diana.
He is also on the same page with the British model regarding their iron-clad prenuptial dictating the terms of dividing their assets.
However, the Canadian actor fails to agree with Turner-Smith on one thing — the date of separation. While the 37-year-old actress listed September 13, 2023, as their date of Separation, Jackson claims it was 17 days later, on September 30, 2023. Now, that's interesting. In other words, it might not have been one blowout argument that finally ended the relationship.
But, the contrast in information might not pose any drama for the estranged couple. In addition, Jodie Turner-Smith has proposed an appointment of a private judge to help settle their divorce and keep the divorce proceedings out of the public.
Recall that Turner-Smith filed for divorce from her husband of four years in a move that shocked many, given that they were still keeping up appearances on social media.
While it lasted, the pair had a whirlwind romance, getting engaged just a few months after meeting at the "Dawson Creek" star's birthday party in 2018. They obtained a wedding license from the Beverly Hills Courthouse in 2019 and became a family of three in 2020.
However, they had their first sign of trouble in paradise in September 2022 when they temporarily unfollowed each other on Instagram. It is not sure what caused the rift, but they wasted no time reconciling, even making loved-up appearances at several events they attended together.
Following the "White Noise" actress' filing, sources close to the couple claimed she was caught by surprise and "heartbroken" by the divorce request but was willing to work things out.
"Joshua is heartbroken over the impending divorce. He always thought that he would be married and grow old with his family, and everything would be happily ever after," the informant told Daily Mail. "He had the dream scenario in his mind, and Jodie was his person and the person he thought he would be with forever."
The source added that Jackson was hopeful they would work things and repair the marriage, saying, "He would have loved nothing more than to still be with Jodie and in a perfect world would probably even take her back if she were to stop the divorce, but now that they have got to this place, he is going to have to accept it."
Nevertheless, the insider claimed that the "Fatal Attraction" star focused more on lovingly co-parenting their daughter through the difficult phase. "He never wanted this for their daughter. They both are great parents and will continue to be. He just hates that they won’t be together as a couple for their daughter anymore. They will always be connected through her," the source stated.
Jodie-Turner Smith Didn't Want To Settle
Although Jackson was reportedly willing to keep the flame of their marriage burning, other sources claim that wasn't the case for Turner-Smith, who didn't want to "settle."
"She refused to settle for something that didn't feel right," one source said. Adding that the marriage "wasn't working for her, so she ripped off the Band-Aid."
The 37-year-old actress reportedly moved into a hotel in Los Angeles amid the divorce while she and the 45-year-old figure out the next steps in their divorce and develop a cohesive co-parenting plan.
Jackson reportedly had no idea his estranged wife felt that way about their marriage, with a source claiming, "Joshua was clearly caught off guard by Jodie's decision to divorce. They had their issues, as many couples do — especially two busy actors who are also juggling a child. Joshua obviously didn't realize it was this bad, that Jodie was this unhappy."
The insider also claimed that close friends of the fan-favorite couple were "baffled" because they "seemed so devoted to each other."
The case is ongoing.
