Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady is speaking out about the way the NFL is played today, claiming there is a lot of "mediocrity" in the game.
When talking to sports analyst Stephen A. Smith, the future Hall of Famer stated there is a lot wrong with the way the NFL is run and played today compared to when he was in his prime.
Tom Brady Says There Is A Lot Of 'Mediocrity' In Today's NFL Game
"I think there's a lot of mediocrity in today's NFL," Brady began to say. "I don't see the excellence that I saw in the past."
When Stephen A. Smith asked Brady why he said that, the former NFL quarterback stated, "I think the coaching isn't as good as it was I don't think the development of young players is as good as it was."
Brady then went on to say how "the [new NFL] rules have allowed a lot of bad habits to get into the actual performance of the game."
"I just think the product in my opinion is less than what it's been," he added.

There have been many rule changes over the years in an attempt to protect the players, however, the former NFL quarterback says that has impacted the way the game is played.
"I look at a lot of players like Ray Lewis, Rodney Harrison, and Ronnie Lott and guys that impacted the game in a certain way and every hit they made would have been a penalty," Brady explained.
"You hear coaches complaining about their own player being tackled, [...] Why don't they talk to them about how to protect themselves?" he said. "We used to work on the fundamentals of those things all the time, now they're trying to be regulated all the time."
"Offensive players need to protect themselves. It's not up to the defensive players to protect the offensive player. I didn't throw the ball to certain areas because I was afraid of players were going to get knocked out, that's the reality."
Tom Brady Mocks Former NFL Teammate Julian Edelman In New Post
The newly retired NFL quarterback recently dissed his former teammate, Julian Edelman.
Brady met NBA player Victor Wembanyama, who stands 7’4″, while the former New England Patriot is just 6’4″. Julian Edelman, who also played for the New England Patriots, is known for being one of the shorter wide receivers as he is just 5’10”.
After meeting Wembanyama, Brady took to social media to share their photo together, while simultaneously mocking his former teammate.

“Awesome to meet you @wemby. Incredible young man,” he wrote on social media, adding, “Usually I’d make some joke here about how I think I could get 10 and 10 against you, but let’s be real… you’d send my jumper into the club level 😂😂😂.”
But then Brady did, in fact make a joke, but it wasn’t towards Wembanyama, it was towards his former New England Patriot teammate, Julian Edelman. “PS: @edelman11 This is how you felt all those years???,” Brady wrote, mocking Edelman for his height.
