Taylor Swift Postpones Show Due To 'Extreme Temperature' In Rio
In another viral fan video of Friday night's performance captioned "Taylor throwing a water bottle to a fan who needs help while singing 'All Too Well' #RioTSTheErasTour," Swift was seen tossing a water bottle to a fan in the audience.
Amid her rendition of "All Too Well," the pop star effortlessly grabbed the bottle from a stagehand, strolled to the center of the stage, and launched it into the cheering crowd.
However, on Saturday evening, Swift and her team decided to postpone her second show in the city, citing heightened risks following Friday's tragic incident.
Despite being at Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium and ready for the performance, the "Out of the Woods" singer shared a heartfelt message on Instagram: "I'm writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight's show due to extreme temperatures in Rio."
She continued: "The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first."
Taylor Swift Says She Is 'Shattered' Over Fan's Death
The distressing clip showing Swift struggling to breathe during her concert came just hours after a 23-year-old fan, Ana Clara Benevides, reportedly died of cardiac arrest inside the overheated stadium.
Acknowledging the unfortunate death, the 33-year-old singer shared a handwritten note on her Instagram Story, expressing that her heart was "shattered" by the tragic death of a fan ahead of her performance at Estadio Nilton Santos in Brazil.
In her post, Swift wrote: "I can't believe I'm writing these words, but it's with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show."
She continued, "I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this. There's very little information I have other than the fact she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young."
Swift emphasized her inability to discuss the tragedy during her performances, adding: "I'm not going to be able to speak about this from the stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it."
However, she extended her condolences to the young fan's family and friends, stating, "I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil."
One of the event organizers, Time for Fun, later confirmed the fan's identity as 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado. According to their statement in Portuguese, Benevides Machado felt unwell at the venue, received initial assistance from first responders, and was later transferred to Salgado Filho Hospital, where she passed away.
