Jamie Lynn Spears Sues Insurance Company For Not Covering Hurricane Ida Damages

Jamie Lynn Spears is suing her homeowner's insurance company, claiming they are not covering damages to her home from Hurricane Ida. 

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Britney Spears'sister and husband, James Watson filed a lawsuit against Progressive Insurance claiming they are owed a substantial amount of money.

In the filing, Spears says, "As a result of Hurricane Ida, they suffered a loss to their personal property caused by a peril covered under the insurance policy."

The famous couple claims the superstorm did enough damage they were forced to submit an estimate to fix the damages to their home. Unfortunately, they say the insurance company is refusing the pay them for the damages to their property.

"Progressive either negligently or intentionally failed to fairly and promptly adjust the damages suffered by the (couple), thus breaching the terms of the insurance policy and its obligations," it states.

They continue, we "are entitled to recover the full value of the loss, all other contract benefits under the insurance policy, compensatory benefits, and all other available relief."

At this point, Jamie Lynn claims they have given no good reason why they wouldn't cover the damage. But, she doesn't give an exact amount that is owed.

It should be noted, that the couple lives in Hammond, Louisiana -- a place that was impacted by the monster storm.

Back in 2021, a local news report described some of the damage to this particular community saying, "The city may have taken a heavy hit but the folks we’ve been able to speak with today are hanging in there."

In one report, it was pointed out that the city’s iconic Southeastern Louisiana University put up a good fight. Adding, "Most of the buildings on campus held strong except for a few. Fallen trees and heavy debris caused a majority of the school’s damage.

"The storm was unbelievable, the wind and the rain. I’ve never seen so much wind and rain it was just blowing so much. Water was from our neighbors’ door all the way up to our door. It was just very scary,” one resident said.

Now, Spears is saying her family has suffered and continues to suffer "pain and anguish" and "monetary losses." Specifically, they point out sustained losses of the investment opportunities they would have if the insurance money were paid. In other words, the couple must have several properties in the area.

On September 1, 2021, Jamie Lynn Spears opened up about the terrible storm, saying, "Louisana has been the backdrop to some of the most important moments in my life, and it’s the place I have always called my home, but it’s the incredible people who live here that make it such a special place. It’s been absolutely heartbreaking to see all of the devastation #HURRICANEIDA has caused to the place I love and call home, but it has warmed my heart so much to see all our neighbors here in Louisiana coming together to help each other during hard times like they ALWAYS have."

Adding, "I’ve never been more proud to be from Louisiana."

She continued, "I’ll continue to post information in my story with ways everyone can help by donating to different places, volunteering, as well as trying to get any useful info for those of us from here, and if y’all have any information that will be helpful, then please send it to me and I’ll share it too...Let’s all say an extra prayer for the people of Louisiana tonight."

The case is ongoing.
