Michael Jackson's mom, Katherine Jackson, is in the government's bad books for owing a large amount of money in unpaid taxes.

According to legal documents obtained by The Blast,  the State of California Franchise Tax Board filed the lien against the King of Pop's mother for owing hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes over four years.

The lien states that Katherine failed to pay all of her CA state taxes from 2018 to 2021, which amounted to a total of $909,263.94 in owed payments. The lien was filed against Katherine's Calabasas home.

As we reported, Michael's estate is set to be worth over $1 billion, especially if the sale of his music catalog goes through. In February, reports surfaced that The Michael Jackson estate is selling half of its interests in the late musician's music catalog for $800 million to $900 million.

The deal was reportedly facilitated by Sony Music and a financial partner to acquire 50% of the estate's interests in Michael's collection as well as his "publishing, recorded-music revenues, the "MJ: The Musical" Broadway show, and the upcoming biopic 'Michael.'"

Eldridge Industries and Shamrock are presumed to be the financial partners. Throughout Michael's solo career and the final years of his time with the Jackson 5, Sony and CBS were the exclusive homes for his music collection.

In 2016, Sony made a $750 million deal to obtain 50% of the Jackson estate's stake in their collaborative venture, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, created in 1995. Also in 2018, Sony revealed that it acquired the estate's 25.1% stake in the EMI Music Publishing company for $287.5 million as part of its $2.3 billion procurement of that company, leading it to become the sole owner and that of Sony/ATV.

In other words, this all might get taken care of in the deal. As we've reported, Michael's family are beneficiaries of his estate.

Although it has been 14 years since the beloved King of Pop passed away, his estate has continued to generate wealth even in his absence. Such was the case when his infamous jacket worn on the set of his "Pepsi Generation" commercial in 1984 was up for auction.

As reported, the custom-made coat was worn by Michael as he danced on the streets with a group of kids for his first major advertisement. Until October 2023, the whereabouts of the coat were unknown, but that changed when a guy named Wendell Thompson brought it forward.

According to Thompson, his father was Jackson's cosmetologist, and the "Billie Jean" singer handed him the jacket in 1983 before the ad aired during an encounter in Orlando. Wendell, who was at the grand opening of Jackson's suite at Disney World's Hotel Royal Plaza, hopes to make a fortune from the jacket sale.

The famed piece of clothing was sold last week in London in the Propstore auction for £250,000 ($312,525). Earlier, another of his items was auctioned. Hotel Drouot auctioned the 1983 Moonwalk in Paris and eventually sold it for 77,640 euros, which is about $85,000.

The famous fedora hat was previously owned by Adam Kelly, who caught it during a Motown concert where the "Thriller" star tossed it in the crowd as he debuted his iconic moonwalk.

Artpeges gallery organizer Arthur Perault disclosed that Kelly held on to it with hopes that Jackson's team would reach out to get it back, but that never happened. Years later, the hat found its way to a few private collectors, with Paris as its final destination before it went home with a new owner.

Michael Jackson's Estate Paid To Restore His Hollywood Walk Of Fame

In May, The Blast broke the news that Michael's estate shelled some money to protect his legacy by restoring his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

According to the legal documents filed by the estate detailing the yearly accounting, it was observed that they paid $2,500 to the "Hollywood Historic Trust" for the restoration of his star. The money was listed as "charity" in the accounting because it was given to the trust to handle the job.

We are guessing MJ's estate lawyers and representatives are getting a call right about...now.
