Kim Kardashian Credits Late Dad Robert Kardashian For Inspiring SKIMS Men

Kim Kardashian has disclosed that even though her dad, Robert Kardashian Sr., died when she was still young, she learned a lot about the business world from him. One of the most important impacts that he left on her resulted in her not only towing in his path but also influencing her into creating SKIMS Men.

Robert, a businessman and attorney, gained widespread recognition when he served as the attorney for his close friend, O.J. Simpson, during the infamous 1994 murder trial.

Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2003 and passed away less than two months later on September 30, 2003, at the age of 59. Now, over two decades later, his second eldest daughter has credited him for inspiring her fashion line.

Initially focusing on shapewear, the Skims brand has since expanded into underwear, socks, loungewear, swimwear, intimates, and more recently, a men's line and a partnership as the official underwear of the National Basketball Association.

Reflecting on her father's desire to always "look cool," Kim shared memories from her teenage years when she worked at the stylish Encino, Los Angeles clothing store Body. She stated:

"Diesel was one of the brands we carried. They had a cool pair of jeans. They were wax-coated. My dad's office was really close by, so he'd always stop in. He said, 'I have to have those.' I got them for him. He would wear them with just a black T-shirt and a loafer."

Long before then, the mother of four has memories of playing around in Robert's neatly organized wardrobe when she was much younger. "When I was five or six. I was climbing up a shelf and the shelf gave way. I just remember waking up in the hospital with a concussion," she shared with GQ.

Kim isn't the only one who remembers the late attorney's fashion as her mother, Kris, also touched on his style. The momager recounted that when she and Robert began dating in the mid-70s, he had a penchant for wearing almost exclusively Gucci attire, including sport coats, pants, and loafers. 

His loyalty to the brand was evident, as the Beverly Hills store often made it a point to inform him and his brother, Tommy, whenever the latest collection arrived. In fact, Kris even made reference to one particular memory from Robert's unbreakable bond with the renowned fashion brand. She divulged:

"The first gift Robert ever got me was a fancy Canon camera that I could never figure out how to use. The second gift he got me was a beautiful Gucci bag. I was a flight attendant at the time, and I was just so excited."

With the mother-daughter duo's admission to Robert's influence, it makes sense that the Skims Men's line has garnered significant attention for its softness and superior fit thus achieving remarkable success in the first few hours of its launch.

According to The Blast, the collection set new records for website traffic, with 25,000 orders placed within the initial five minutes of launch last month. With that, the brand documented its most substantial day of sales since its initial introduction in September 2019. 

While the GQ interview would be the first time she'd open up about Robert's fashion influence, Kim has never shied away from praising him for being a good father.

During Father's Day 2023, she joined other prominent figures to highlight the special men in their lives, sharing a series of throwback snapshots featuring her, Robert, and other members of the Kardashian clan. 

In the first image, the father of four is seen wearing a bright smile, while holding Kim and her older sister, Kourtney, in his arms. The subsequent photo showed the attorney, standing next to his girls, dressed to the nines in a black tuxedo.

He appeared in other additional snaps, including an older family portrait with Kris and their four kids — Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Rob, and an up-close, black-and-white image with his now-billionaire daughter. 

"Best to ever do it! I wouldn't be me if it weren't for you two. Thank you. Happy Fathers Day," Kim wrote beneath the media overload, expressing gratitude and recognition for the significant role her father played in shaping who she is.
