A foundation was launched in Perry's name and honor on the same day as his funeral. Its purpose is to help people struggling and recovering from addiction, just as the actor himself struggled with alcohol and prescription painkillers for decades. Perry was open about his battle with fans, especially in his latest memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing."

After the launch, the Matthew Perry Foundation released a statement saying it's "the realisation of Matthew's enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction." The statement further said that the foundation is "guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible."
