A woman is in custody after a shooting occurred on I-59 in Birmingham, Alabama, leaving multiple people injured and two individuals in "life-threatening" condition.

An initial 911 call was made around 4 p.m. ET on Friday, November 10, claiming a masked man was firing into occupied vehicles on the interstate. At least two men were rushed to UAB Hospital with gunshot wounds, and are now in a "life-threatening" condition, per authorities.

As The Blast reported on Friday, a shooting occurred in Birmingham, Alabama, leaving multiple people injured. The incident occurred on I-59 at the 20th Street Ensley exit. Following the incident, all I-59 lanes near the 120-mile marker were shut down for investigation.

Following the incident, the Birmingham Police Department released more information, stating that around 4:40 p.m. on Friday, November 10, a group of bystanders saw a possible stolen vehicle on the interstate. They then followed the vehicle. Once the car stopped on the interstate, a shootout began near the Bush Boulevard exit.

While news crews were on the scene, an accident in the northbound lanes of I-59 occurred, per WCAX. The condition of the drivers is unknown. It is also unclear if this accident had any relation to the shootings.

One adult woman is in custody, but police have stated that all parties involved are considered suspects, meaning there could be more arrests made in the coming hours/days.

Per our report yesterday, a masked man reportedly opened fire into occupied vehicles on the interstate, per 911 calls. At least two men have been rushed to UAB Hospital with gunshot wounds, and are now in "life-threatening" condition.

The motive of the shooting is still under investigation.

This news comes just weeks after a mass shooting occurred in Lewiston, Maine.

On October 25 at approximately 6:56 p.m. ET, the Auburn communications center received a 911 call of a male shooting in the Sparetime Recreation Center, a bowling alley located in the town of Lewiston, Maine. Then, around 7:08 p.m. ET, the communications center continued to receive multiple 911 calls about an active shooter inside a local bar, Schemengees Bar and Grille, in the same town of Lewiston.

A total of 18 people died in the shootings. Seven people were killed at the Just-In-Time Recreation Bowling Alley and eight people were fatally shot at the local Schemengees Bar and Grille. Three people were rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead. Several others were injured.

Law enforcement named 40-year-old Robert Card as the main suspect, who was found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, over 48 hours after the shootings occurred.

The 40-year-old suspect was reportedly a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he enlisted in the Reserve in 2002. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 304th Infantry Regiment in Saco, Maine, U.S. Army spokesperson Bryce Dubee told CBS News.

He was reportedly found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
