Michael Chiarello's Death Certificate Reveals Cause Of Death Is 'Pending Investigation'

Food Network star Michael Chiarello passed away at the age of 61 after being rushed to a hospital where he was receiving treatment for an "acute allergic reaction."

While his passing seems to have been a result of an allergic reaction, his death certificate, obtained by The Blast, shows that Chiarello's official cause of death is still pending investigation.

After undergoing an autopsy, late celebrity chef Michael Chiarello's cause of death has been listed as "deferred."

Chiarello passed away at the age of 61, and according to a statement by his company, Gruppo Chiarello, he died in Napa, California, where he was undergoing treatment for an acute allergic reaction. This inevitably led to Chiarello having an anaphylactic shock that caused his death.

In a statement confirming his passing, Chiarello's family said, "We deeply mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch Michael. His culinary brilliance, boundless creativity, and unwavering commitment to family were at the core of his being."

"He brought people together through the joy of shared meals, fostering lasting memories around the table. As we navigate this profound loss, we hold dear the moments we cherished with him, both in his kitchens and in our hearts," the family continued.

They concluded, noting that "his legacy will forever live on in the love he poured into every dish and the passion he instilled in all of us to savor life's flavors."

Chiarello showed his kindness in 2017 by cooking nonstop to assist firefighting efforts in wine country.

The late chef at the time lent his culinary skills by preparing 20lbs of Spaghetti Bolognese and sending it over to the firefighters who were hard at work controlling a fire outbreak in the area.

A rep for Chiarello exclusively told The Blast that the former Food Network star cooked without electricity as his popular Bottega restaurant, along with the entire region, had suffered a power outage. So Chiarello had to cook in the dark over a gas stove.

The rep also shared, at the time, that Chiarello and his associates were safe from the fire, allowing them to focus their energy on feeding the first responders.

Chiarello, who was born in 1962 in Red Bluff, California, is known for hosting food-related shows on networks like Food Network, PBS, and Cooking Channel. 

According to Business Wire, the acclaimed chef founded his first restaurant, Tra Vigne, in Napa Valley in 1987. He later went on to create several restaurants, including Ottimo and Bottega, both in Napa Valley, and Coquet, a Spanish restaurant with locations in Napa Valley and San Francisco's Pier 5.

Chiarello, who was named Chef of the Year by Esquire Magazine in 2013, was also a winemaker, establishing the Chiarello Family Vineyards in 1999.

A year later, he launched NapaStyle, a retail line of artisanal foods, home goods, and kitchenware.

In addition to hosting popular cooking shows, Chiarello appeared on chat shows such as "The View" and "Today," according to his website.
