When promoting his 2022 memoir "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing," Perry opened up about his drug and alcohol addiction, explaining that that is the reason why he could never watch the hit sitcom --  because it was a trigger.

"[I] can't watch the show because I was brutally thin," he admitted.

"Because I could go drinking, opiates, drinking, cocaine. I could tell season by season by how I looked," he continued. "That's why I don't want to watch it because that's what I see."

“There was a rule that we had, it was really important to the six of us, that we kept a friendship; that we were friends. And if we were hooking up or if there was any strangeness going on, that might mess with things,” Perry said in May 2021 when promoting the “Friends: The Reunion” HBO Max special. “So, we kept a friendship, and we did become really good friends. And we are really good friends to this day."
