American hockey player Adam Johnson died following a “freak accident” during a hockey game. Now, fans are claiming the man whose skate slit his neck needs to be charged with manslaughter.
Johnson, who appeared in 13 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019 and 2020, died after his neck was slit by a skate blade during a game in England. He was 29.
Player Should Be Charged For ‘Killing’ Hockey Player With Skate Blade
The person involved in the play, Matt Petgrave, was the hockey player whose skate slit Adam Johnson’s neck during the game Saturday, resulting in Johnson passing away.
Now, fans of the sport are claiming that Petgrave needs to be charged with manslaughter as the play was “dirty.” The word “manslaughter” is even trending on Twitter.
“Matt Petgrave needs to be charged with manslaughter for killing Adam Johnson on the ice. What a dirty play,” one fan wrote alongside a video of the play that resulted in the death of Johnson.

Johnson was playing for the Nottingham Panthers in a Challenge Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers when he suffered the injury.
During the second period of the game, Petgrave’s skate cut his neck during a play, which resulted in his tragic passing.
Certainly looks like a deliberate kick.

Another fan of the sport agreed that. Petgrave needs some sort of punishment as it “certainly looks like a deliberate kick.”
Take a look, and you be the judge.
As a former player I agree. I’m thinking a “knee to knee” gone horribly wrong. Should absolutely be charged with manslaughter.

And a former hockey player chimed in, also agreeing that Petgrave needs to be charged. “As a former player, I agree. I’m thinking a “knee to knee” gone horribly wrong,” they said, adding, “Should absolutely be charged with manslaughter.”
That is murder. Leg up and push off. Dirty player should be arrested.

Look how he skates off afterwards you can see he intended to ‘hit’ him… he shows no actual shock or feeling to what just happened.

As one user pointed out, “Look how he skates off afterward you can see he intended to ‘hit’ him… he shows no actual shock or feeling to what just happened.”
Of course, any injury during a sporting event rarely results in a criminal charge. And, it’s unclear if the authorities are even investigation this incident as a possible crime. But, it hasn’t stopped fans from giving their opinion on the situation.
NHL World Reacts To Adam Johnson’s Tragic Passing
Adam Johnson spent 13 games during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons playing for Pittsburgh in the NHL. Following his tragic death, the Penguins released a statement, which read:

We offer our deepest condolences to Adam’s family and friends, as well as all of Adam’s past and present teammates and coaches. Adam will always be part of the Penguins family.”
The Nottingham Panthers also released a statement, which is the team Johnson was playing for when the accident occurred.
“The Nottingham Panthers are truly devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away following a freak accident at the game in Sheffield last night,” the team said Sunday. “The Panthers would like to send our thoughts and condolences to Adam’s family, his partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time.
